A new baby in the home brings sweet smiles and cute coos but for mom it can also bring backache. The Ontario Chiropractic Association has just the treat to help mom reduce back stress.

Routinely lifting a 7-10 pound infant up to 50 times a day can create crushing damage to your back if you’re not taking proper precautions. By the time a child is a year old a parent is lifting and carrying up to 17 pounds numerous times a day.

Regardless of the weight of the child, the combination of carrying a baby and their diaper bag puts ample stress on a new mother’s spine. With a baby in one arm and a diaper bag on the other, keeping stress off your lower back is a balancing act.

That’s why the Ontario Chiropractic Association is offering one (1) EverythingMom reader a chance to win an ergonomic diaper bag filled with items to help new moms increase their back health.

Valued at $100 the prize pack will include a baby-and-me yoga video, a portable foot massager, an exercise ball, an active heat wrap for back pain, and of course, a new diaper bag for all the goodies to go in. From finding and carrying a handbag or backpack to gardening and running, the Ontario Chiropractic Association website is a great resource for heathy back tips and advice. You can also learn more about the discipline of chiropractic care and finding a Chiropractor near you.

For a chance to win simply fill out the form below letting me know how you take care of your back after baby arrives.

One (1) Postpartum Backache Relief prize is available to be won. Contest closes August 22, 2014 and is open to Canadian residents in Ontario only. Please see full contest rules.

  1. Having carried twins two times, I had a lot of issues with my back. I used special pregnancy pillows, a belly band, heating pad and regular exercise and stretches to help it during and after.

  2. I would give this to my sister who is seeing a physiotherapist for back pain right now. Walking backwards on the treadmill helps apparently.

  3. Lots of hot baths and stretching. I’m a babywearer, and only use really ergonomic carriers or wraps (which are the most comfortable option by far, imo).

  4. I sleep with extra pillows for lower back support.I try not to carry too much at once and pack as little as possible.
