Synopsis from Raincoast Books:

Hey, kids, it’s time to bone up on the human body! Discover the hidden secrets of the body using real X-rays in the cool new book, Amazing X-rays: The Human Body. Using the book’s unique built-in light box, curious readers can clip on one of the 16 included acetate X-rays to examine close-up. They’ll see the kinds of details real doctors see, and in the process, begin to understand human anatomy and the skeletal system. Throughout the colorful spreads in the book, junior radiologists will find engaging, entertaining text and a wealth of X-ray images, photographs, and illustrations to guide them in their studies.

Kids are fascinated with how things work, including the human body. Amazing X-Rays: The Human Body, gives them an interactive peek on what makes up our body and how these elements work. The 16-page booklet is devided into key areas like Teeth and Jaws or Hand, and each section contains large photographs and call-outs of key information. Unlike other body books, this gives kids quick blips of information they will find interesting.

The big wow factor of this book is the x-ray machine. Okay, it’s a little lightbox that kids can use to view x-rays and the book comes with 16 actual x-rays they can use. My kids loved placing the x-rays on the light box, turning on the light and exploring the various bones within a hand x-ray or chest x-ray. We’d then sit and read through the appropriate section in the book to understand what they were looking at. Not only did they find the book interesting but it actually become something they used in role-playing (such as visiting the hospital). I love when books extend a child’s discovery beyond just reading.

There are other books within this series: Amazing X-Rays. Wild Animals and Amazing X-Rays. Pets.
