Effective Self Care for Moms isn’t just a nice idea, it’s essential. As moms, we spend so much of our time pouring into our families that it’s easy to forget we need refilling too.

Between the school runs, work deadlines, tantrums (ours or the kids’), and all the little everyday things we do, it’s no wonder we sometimes feel like we’re running on empty. But here’s the thing—we deserve to feel good. We deserve to slow down, take a breather, and do something just for ourselves.

Whether it’s sneaking in five peaceful minutes with a hot cup of coffee (before someone yells “Mom!”) or setting up a dreamy self-care basket, we’re all about finding fun, realistic ways to feel recharged.

So, if you’re a mom looking for permission to finally take a break—you’ve got it. Let’s talk about why self-care matters, how to actually make it happen, and some of our favorite ways to feel like you again.

Why Self Care Is Important For Moms

Being a mom is the most rewarding job in the world, but whew, it’s also the most exhausting one. We’re constantly juggling all the things: playdates, work deadlines, laundry piles, meal preps (why are they always hungry?!), and of course, trying to squeeze in some time to shower in peace.

We love reminding fellow moms (and ourselves) that we can’t pour from an empty cup. When we’re running on fumes, everything feels heavier; our patience wears thin, the tantrums hit harder, and even the tiniest mishaps feel overwhelming.

But when we give ourselves a little TLC, whether it’s a quiet moment with our favorite book, a walk around the block, or a night off from mom duties, we come back refreshed, more present, and a whole lot kinder (to our kids and ourselves).

Taking care of ourselves also sets a powerful example for our little ones. We like to think of it as showing them that their feelings, health, and happiness matter—because they see it matter in us.

When they grow up watching us prioritize our well-being, they’ll grow up knowing that it’s okay to take a break, ask for help, and say, “I need a minute.”

So no, self-care isn’t selfish. It’s survival. It’s sanity. And sometimes, it’s what helps us hold it all together with a smile (even on those days when everyone somehow needs a snack at the same exact time).

How To Practice Self Care As A Mom

Now let’s talk about the fun part: how to actually do self-care as a mom. Because we’re not talking about fancy spa days (though we love those too), but real, doable, every-mom-can-do-it kinds of care.

Find Your Five-Minute Faves

We like to keep a mental list of what we call “five-minute faves.” That could be sipping hot coffee before the chaos begins, putting on a face mask while folding laundry (we call it multitasking magic), or dancing around the kitchen to our favorite throwback hits. Self-care doesn’t need to be big—it just needs to feel good. And if you have more time, the more time the better. You can do 10-min meditations

Say Yes to Solo Time

We love our families, but let’s be real here – sometimes we just need a moment alone. Whether it’s a solo trip to Target, a hot shower with the door locked (gasp!), or even just five minutes sitting in the car doing absolutely nothing—claim that time. You’ve earned it.

Do What Makes You Feel You

Remember what lit you up before kids? Was it painting, journaling, gardening, or binge-watching feel-good romcoms? Whatever makes you feel like you, bring it back. Even if it’s just in tiny doses, it helps reconnect us with who we are beyond “Mom.”

Lean On Your Village

We’re big believers in asking for help. Call a friend, join a mom group, or simply vent to someone who gets it. Sharing the mental load (even just emotionally) can be such a relief.

At the end of the day, self-care looks different for everyone. But one thing’s for sure: when we take care of ourselves, we show up as the best version of the superhero moms we already are.

How To Make Time For Self-Care As A Mom

Finding time for self-care as a mom sometimes feels like trying to find a matching sock in a laundry basket of chaos. We get it.

Between chasing toddlers, meal prepping, work, and the 50 other things on your mental list, “me time” often ends up at the very bottom (if it even makes the list). But trust us: you deserve that time.

Schedule It Like a Doctor’s Appointment

We love blocking out self-care in our calendars like it’s something official—because it is. Whether it’s 10 minutes in the morning to journal or a nightly skincare routine that feels like a mini spa, putting it on the schedule helps make it real. Bonus: you’re less likely to cancel on yourself!

Combine It With What You’re Already Doing

We like to sneak in self-care during everyday tasks. Think podcasts while washing dishes, calming tea during the bedtime routine, or stretching a little while watching cartoons with the kids. It’s the multitasking magic moms are famous for.

Let Go of the Guilt

One of our favorite reminders? You don’t have to “earn” rest. You’re already doing so much. Taking time for yourself doesn’t mean you’re slacking—it means you’re sustaining. You’re fueling the engine that keeps the whole show running.

Even just five to ten minutes a day of intentional self-care can make a big difference. So grab that book, light that candle, or just sit in silence for a moment—because you matter, and your peace is worth prioritizing.

Self Care Basket For New Mom

Oh, we love making self-care baskets for new moms, it’s one of our favorite ways to say, “Hey, you’re doing amazing, and you deserve a little something just for you.”

Whether you’re gifting it to a friend or curating one for yourself (yes, please!). A thoughtful self-care basket can feel like a warm hug in a box. Here are some of the things we love to include:

Comfy Essentials

We always start with cozy must-haves—think fuzzy socks, a soft eye mask, or a snuggly robe. Comfort is key, especially during those sleep-deprived newborn days.

Mini Spa Treats

We like adding little pamper items like sheet masks, bath salts, lip balm, and calming essential oils. Even a five-minute soak in the tub can feel like a total reset.

Snacks & Sips

One of our favorites? Including yummy, mom-approved snacks—like lactation cookies, dark chocolate (yes, please!), herbal teas, or even a cute tumbler for water or iced coffee.

A Thoughtful Touch

Add a handwritten note with encouraging words or your favorite “you got this” quote. It’s those tiny personal touches that mean the most.

Extras That Say “I See You”

We love including dry shampoo (because time is a luxury), a cute journal, or a book she can read one-handed during feedings.

A self-care basket doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. It just has to say: “You’re not alone, and you deserve to feel cared for, too.”

And honestly, we think every mom, new or not, should have one. Or three even.

Self-care for moms doesn’t have to be fancy. What’s your go-to mini moment of peace? We’d love to know!
