You are 28 weeks pregnant! You are officially in your 3rd trimester. Check out what is happening with you and your baby this week!

28 Weeks Pregnant

Congrats you are 28 weeks pregnant which means you are officially in your 3rd trimester.

You are ⅔ of the way through your pregnancy. Before you know it you won’t be pregnant anymore!

By now baby should be lying head down. Doctors can check this by feeling your belly and feeling for the baby’s body parts.

They can also check this vaginal and feel for the baby’s head this way as well. If your baby is not head down yet, don’t panic there is still time for your baby to turn and become head down.

How Big Is Baby at 28 Weeks Pregnant?

At 28 weeks pregnant your baby is about the size of an eggplant. Your baby now measures about 15 inches from head to toe and weighs approximately 2 pounds.

How Is My 28 Week Fetus Developing?

At 28 weeks pregnant your 28 week fetus’ brain is still developing but it has developed enough that he or she can now control its own body temperature. This is a big accomplishment for your little baby.

Their lungs are now developed enough that if the baby was born this week they could most likely breath on their own.

I remember getting to week 28 of my pregnancy gave me such a sense of peace of mind knowing that my baby’s lungs were working well enough to function.

Your baby can also tell the difference between light and dark. By your baby knowing this hopefully they will start to be trained a bit by the time they are born that we sleep when it is dark and we are awake when it is light.

We can only hope, right?

28 Weeks Pregnant Belly

Oh, our sweet 28 week pregnant belly! By now you might not be able to see your feet. I know I couldn’t.

If you’re wondering if a bigger belly means a bigger baby— it’s not true. I

t’s all in how the baby is position determines the size of your baby bump.

If this isn’t your first child your bump may be bigger this time around at 28 weeks then before since your abdomen muscles have already been stretched once before!

This week your doctor will measure fundal height which is the distance from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus.

This should measure about 26 to 30 centimeters.

When you fall into this normal range the doctor knows that the baby isn’t sideways or breech as that would significantly change the measurements.

Don’t forget to document your cute 28 week pregnant belly even if you don’t feel that cute anymore. You will want to remember this time in your life and your little baby will want to look back on how big your baby bump was.

28 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms

Breast leakage

At 28 weeks pregnant you may notice clear liquid leaking from your breast especially after a hot shower. This is totally normal, so don’t panic.

What is happening, is your breast is already started making colostrum which is the nutrients your baby needs when firstborn.

Shortness of breath

Shortness of breath is real during your third trimester of pregnancy.

Since your body has increased in blood volume and weight your heart is working a bit harder these days. This can cause shortness of breath.

Try exercising more and keeping your body in motion. This will help lower your pulse and improve your breathing.

As easy as adjusting your posture can help with breathing issues that are associated with pregnancy.

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are totally harmless but may be painful and itchy and not that attractive. They are caused by pregnancy and the weight of the uterus that is putting on the inferior vena cava which is the vein that carries blood from the legs and feet back to the heart.

This causes varicose veins.

Your doctor may ask you to wear compression stockings to help with the circulation of blood in your lower extremities.

Varicose veins tend to go away after pregnancy but it takes some time. So don’t fret if you start getting them.

How Many Months Is 28 Weeks Pregnant?

At 28 weeks pregnant you are 6 months along, but you are now embarking on your 7th month.

What to Do at 28 Weeks Pregnant?

Kick Count

Now that you are 28 weeks pregnant it is time to start tracking those kick counts.

It is important to keep track of how often your baby is moving each day.

How to Track Kick Counts

You will want to pick a time of day that the baby is normally active. Set a time and see how long it takes you to feel your baby move 10 times.

You should feel your baby move 10 times in less than 2 hours.

Do this every day at the same time. Record what happens.

By doing this helps you have peace of mind that your baby is moving and is doing great.

If your baby is not moving try drinking some juice with sugar or poking your belly to try and wake them up.

If you start to feel less movement contact your doctor immediately as this could be a sign that there is a problem.

Baby Shower

Now is the time to start thinking about your baby shower.

Are you going to have a shower?

Do you want a diaper only shower?

Who are you going to invite?

When you start thinking about your baby shower now it gives you time to plan what you want as well as register.

You will want to have your shower sooner than later.

The reason for this is so that you will know what you still need to buy for your baby and also if you go into labor early you have what you need.

Have you started tracking your kick counts yet? What is your favorite thing about feeling your baby move? Share in the comments!
