With you hitting 30 weeks pregnant this week you are getting closer to holding your baby. See what is happening this week with your baby and you during week 30!

30 Weeks Pregnant

You are 30 weeks pregnant and probably anxious to meet your little baby. You are probably continuing to feel their little jabs and kicks in the ribs in the back and everywhere.

Not only that you are probably running to the bathroom every 5 minutes because it feels like your baby is dancing on your bladder.

With all this going on, you are probably elated that you are almost done being pregnant and your baby will soon be in your arms.

How Big Is Baby at 30 Weeks Pregnant?

At 30 weeks pregnant your baby is now 17 inches long and weighing about 3 pounds.

How Is My 30 Week Fetus Developing?

So much is happening this week with your 30 week fetus.

This week your baby’s brain is getting bigger. It has always been smooth up until this point, but now it is getting grooves and indentations.

These wrinkles are needed to allow for more brain tissue so that the brain can continue to grow.

Remember the lanugo (peach fuzz hair all over) that your baby got several months ago? Well, it is starting to disappear thanks to all the new fat cells that now help your baby’s body temperature to be regulated.

Of course you might see a little bit when your baby is born, but for the most part, it will all be gone.

Ready for another big change this week? Your baby’s bone marrow is now making red blood cells. This is huge in order for your baby to thrive outside the womb.

30 Weeks Pregnant Belly

You 30 weeks pregnant belly is looking pretty cute right about now!

By this point in your pregnancy on average women have gained anywhere from 18 to 25 pounds and you have a fundal height of 28 to 32 centimeters.

If you have gained more weight than this, it is not the time to stress about it. Just keep eating healthy and exercising and after you have the baby and are approved to workout again you can start to work on getting back to that pre-pregnancy body.

Of course, you will want to keep tracking your weight because a sudden weight loss or weight gain can be a sign of a serious problem like preeclampsia and you will want to call your doctor immediately.

Your baby is still living in about 1 ½ pints of amniotic fluid at week 30 of your pregnancy.

30 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms

At 30 weeks pregnant there are certainly some pregnancy symptoms that you are seeing. Some of them include

  • Heartburn
  • Trouble Sleeping
  • Swelling (remember probably not a good idea to wear your wedding ring anymore)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Tender Breasts
  • Constipation

Discomfort

By now at 30 weeks you are probably feeling really uncomfortable. Your belly is getting bigger and heavier, your back is hurting more, your hips, hurt, and your feet are sore.

You are having trouble getting to sleep at night. You aren’t sleeping great which is making you tired and then when you are sleeping you are running to the bathroom every hour.

These are all signs of general discomfort which will be with you from now until the end of your pregnancy. So do what you can to be comfortable, the end is in sight.

Diarrhea

Later in pregnancy (30 weeks and on), some women start seeing diarrhea creep in. No one really knows why this happens it just does.

Some predict it is your body starting to clean itself out to prepare for birth, but those are just myths.

If you are hit with diarrhea make sure to stay hydrated and talk to your doctor about what is going on. If it is bad enough they might recommend an over the counter medication that is safe to take that will help.

How Many Months Is 30 Weeks Pregnant?

At 30 weeks pregnant you are in your 7th month. You only have two months to go before your baby is born.

What to Do at 30 Weeks Pregnant?

Childbirth Classes

At 30 weeks pregnant, if you haven’t already it is time to take your childbirth classes. These classes will help you prepare to give birth. They will teach you breathing techniques as well as ways your partner can help support you through labor.

While you are at your childbirth classes be sure to see if you can take a tour of the hospital so you know where everything is when you go to give birth.

Your Hospital Bag

With just over two months to go, you’re probably starting to get ready for the big day.

With your big day coming up it is time to start planning for and gathering items for your hospital bag.

I would always pack a hospital bag for me and then a diaper bag of items for the baby. Now is a great time to start making a list of items to take with you.

Here are a few essentials to pack in your delivery bag:

  • Nursing bra & pads
  • Pajamas
  • Comfy clothes to come home in. Think yoga pants, sweats etc. You will not be able to fit back into your pre-pregnancy clothes right away.
  • Toiletries
  • Sanitary pads
  • Cash for snacks
  • Diaper bag with diapers and wipes
  • Clothes for baby to come home in – include lots of layers so you can keep baby warm, and don’t forget socks and hat
  • Car seat
  • Music, photo or anything you desire to aid you in labor
  • Camera
  • Phone Charger

Maternity Photoshoot

We said it a few weeks back, but now is the time to get your maternity photoshoot scheduled. You don’t want to wait til the very end of your pregnancy because you might go into labor before then.

A good rule of thumb is to get your maternity photos done by week 35.

With only 10 weeks to go in your pregnancy are you feeling those little kicks in your ribs? Share in the comments!
