How To Use These Printable Labels For Notebooks
Getting your kids ready for the new school year is a breeze with these customizable labels! Here’s a simple guide on how to use these printable labels for notebooks and nametags.
Part 1: Customizing Your Notebook Labels & Nametags in Canva
Access Your Template:
Click on the unique link you received to open the template in Canva. If you don’t have a Canva account, you’ll be prompted to create one (it’s free!). Accessing this automatically allows you to have a copy of the template. You can rename your copy if you like (e.g., “Liam’s Labels”).
Personalize Each Label/Nametag:
- Click on the text box you want to edit (e.g., “Name,” “Subject,” “Grade”).
- Type in your desired information (e.g., the child’s name, subject name, teacher’s name, etc.).
- Adjust Font (Optional):
- With the text box selected, look at the top toolbar.
- Click the font dropdown menu (it shows the current font name) to choose a different font style.
- Click the font size number to make the text bigger or smaller.
- Change Color (Optional):
- With the text box selected, click the ‘A’ icon with a color bar underneath it (Text Color) in the top toolbar.
- Choose your preferred color from the palette.
- Reposition Elements (Optional):
- Click and drag any text box or graphic element to move it around until it looks just right.
Repeat for All Labels:
Go through each label and nametag on the page and customize all the necessary details.
Save Your Work:
Canva automatically saves your designs as you go, but it’s always a good idea to ensure it’s saved. Look for “All changes saved” at the top of the screen.
Part 2: Printing Your Labels & Nametags
Before you print, decide what type of paper you want to use!
- For Stickers/Labels: Use full-sheet adhesive label paper (e.g., A4 or Letter size sticker paper).
- For Nametags/Non-Adhesive Labels: Use thick cardstock or regular printer paper (you’ll need glue or tape to attach them).
Download Your Design:
- In the top right corner of Canva, click the “Share” button.
- Click “Download.”
- Recommended Download Settings:
- File type: Select “PDF Print”. (This is the best option for high-quality printing.)
- Pages: If you only customized one page, leave it as “All pages.” If you have multiple pages and only want to print specific ones, select them here.
- Click the “Download” button. Your design will download to your computer’s “Downloads” folder.
Open the Downloaded File:
- Locate the PDF file you just downloaded (it will likely open automatically in your browser or a PDF viewer like Adobe Acrobat Reader).
Print Your Labels/Nametags:
- Go to File > Print (or click the printer icon).
- IMPORTANT Print Settings to Check:
- Paper Size: Make sure this matches the paper you are using (e.g., A4 or US Letter).
- Scale/Scaling: This is CRITICAL for accurate sizing. Choose “Actual Size”, “Custom Scale: 100%”, or “Fit to Page: OFF”. DO NOT select “Fit to Page” or “Shrink Oversized Pages” as this will make your labels smaller than intended.
- Orientation: Make sure it’s set to Portrait.
- Quality: Select “High Quality” or “Best” if your printer has this option.
- Paper Type: Select the appropriate paper type (e.g., “Photo Paper,” “Cardstock,” “Label Paper”) if your printer has this option, as it helps with ink adhesion.
- Click “Print.”
That’s it! You’re now ready to add a personalized touch to all your back-to-school supplies. You can access your free printable labels and nametag templates right here!
