What is Parent Council
Our Parent Council was inspired by two events. First, on Shark Tank (Season 15, Episode 7), Brandi Dugal pitched her product, The Fidget Game, that supports literacy for younger Elementary School age children. She walked away with $500,000 from Barbara Cochran for 15% of her business. She shared that she had a Council of 100 teachers who helped her to test and develop the game.
The second event actually happened years earlier when we ourselves formed a council of 200 teachers to explore the life skills that support a child in having a successful school life … and preparing for a successful and personally rewarding future. The result was a collection of ten essential life skills that became the foundation of our app, GetBowld.
And since GetBowld is an app for parents to provide for their children, we are in the process of growing our Council of Parents to help us in this important mission. If you join our Council, you will receive the GetBowld app ($59 per year subscription price) for your child/children at no cost to you .
Your involvement will basically include looking over the app yourself and then providing it for your child to experience. By sharing your thoughts and your child’s experience of the app, you will also be supporting a mission that is so important for all children, as well as for the future of our communities, and our society in general.
We all know that subjects like literacy are so important for a child’s development. However, the GetBowld essential life skills are even more important in that they are what children actually USE to learn any subject, to grow, and to connect with others! If you are still feeling interested, please read on to learn more about the app itself …
So, the purpose of the GetBowld app is first for your child to KNOW the 10 essential life skills that teachers say will support their success in life, and then for your child to know how to APPLY them.
How Can GetBowld Help?
Now for the big question! How can an app actually present these essential life skills in a way that a child will actually use the app and apply its valuable ideas to support their life right now … and prepare them for a successful personally rewarding future?
Let’s think about it. What would be needed in such an app is a blend of learning and gaming. And the perfect idea for this is that the child is using their phone not only to play games within the app itself, but that they are using the app to win the game called ‘life’!
It’s a fun idea and it turns a phone into a magical device, and living their life into an amazing game where the life skills are like superpowers!
So in the GetBowld app:
- We blend the game idea and learning incentive with quiz-type games like Skill Quest and Power Play that involve matching life skills to scenarios from school, from sports, and from everyday life.
- Then there are the GetBowld Double and Triple Randomizer Games where the child can actually connect life skills to things that they are interested in – like their favorite celebrities, movies, books, and more.
- And then we’ve connected the essential life skills with creative expression in the GetBowld Art Gallery, Writing Room, and Recording Studio, where a child can draw, write, and record their ideas about the life skills, and even share them with family and friends if they like.
- And yes, we’ve also included traditional animated video game-style activity bowling games! With more coming soon.
So the main idea is for your child to spend time on the app – playing, reading, drawing, writing, recording. And the simple act of just being on the app will result in them seeing, recognizing, and internalizing the life skills while they are engaging in the activities!
