A little history with small town charm awaits families in St. Augustine Florida (one of our favourite spots to visit) and Jaybird’s Inn offers a perfect spot to stay.

From the outside Jaybird’s Inn has a little Spanish feel, fitting in with the historic nature of the city, yet the interiors evoke more of a fresh and modern atmosphere. The two story motel means direct exterior access to your room without waiting for an elevator.

Jaybird’s Inn can provide adjoining rooms that offer many benefits for families. Our set-up included a double queen room for the kids and a king suite for us parents. This gave us two bathrooms and three televisions and lots of space but we would have been quite comfortable all together in the king suite with it’s separate living area and pullout couch.

The rooms also include a mini fridge and microwave oven, perfect to store bottle water and popping a bowl of popcorn for a nighttime movie, plus your stay included a simple continental breakfast in the lobby area. It’s nothing big but a bowl of cereal with a bagel may be all the kids need before heading into the historic part of town for a great lunch.

Speaking of heading into town. Although Jaybird’s Inn isn’t located within the historic heart of the city, it is a doable 15 to 20-minute walk. We walked it one night with the kids after planning a dinner in town. If walking doesn’t appeal to you, the Jay Bird Inn offers use of bikes to visit the city or you can hop on The Red Train Tour that is just around the corner from the motel.  The St Augustine Visitor’s Information Centre offers a great flat price parking facility too. The small one-way streets are lovely to walk down but a hassle when it comes time to finding parking.

Guests at Jaybird’s Inn can also enjoy their outdoor pool (not yet opened when we visited). Traveling with the kids we discovered how nice a dip in the pool could be to unwind from a busy day touring or to cool down from the warm sun.

Historic St Augustine offers so much for families to experience and Jaybird’s Inn is a perfect spot to rest up for the night. It offers a lot of comfort for families without a high price tag.
