Just like the Mythbuster’s Explosive Exhibition that appeared at the Ontario Science Centre last year, the Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not is bound to intrigue you and have you walking away inspired by nature and humans.

Oddities and curiosities have always fascinated my kids. We visited the Ripley’s Museum when visiting St. Augustine, Florida as well as Key West. The kids even have a collection of books from Ripley’s that are often pulled out.

The Science of Ripley’s Believe it or not, running from May 20 to September 5, 2016, isn’t a look no touch experience. You’ll encounter a number of hand’s on exhibits as well as many photo opportunities.

We learned about the benefits of eating bugs and made lunch order through a virtual bug food truck.

We, or rather the kids, crawled through a replica of a prehistoric snack and donned an environmental suit used to explore the giant crystal caves.

We were amazed at the creativity of others as we looked at artist Doug Powell‘s mosaic of Ben Franklin made out of computer keys or Willard Wigan’s microscopic sculptures in the eye of a needle or on a head of a pin.

Although I loved everything curated for this exhibit, my favourite had to be the sculpture made from discarded toys. I found myself pointing out toys from my childhood, like the Fisher Price people that at one point were made of wood with peg-like bodies.

The Ontario Science Centre does a great job having approachable staff on hand encouraging visitors to try the hands-on exhibit as well as expand on the science about what they are seeing.

The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not will fascinate and push the boundaries of what you believe to be possible in humans and nature. For more information on the exhibit visit the Ontario Science Centre site or join the conversation on twitter and Instagram with the #WeirdScienceTO hashtag.

  1. I was looking for the sculpture made of toys. I saw it at Ripley’s Science North about 5 years ago. Thank you for posting this information.
