The 2nd week of pregnancy is the most crucial in your pregnancy because this is the week where you are actually getting pregnant! So check out what happens when you are 2 weeks pregnant including signs of ovulation.
2 Weeks Pregnant
Congrats! You are two weeks pregnant!
If you have been trying to get pregnant this is the most important week!
When you are two weeks pregnant it is actually the week when you are ovulating and your egg gets fertilized!
Signs of Ovulation
Did you know that your body gives you signs that you are ovulating? If you are trying to get pregnant it is key to know the signs of ovulation.
Change in Cervical Fluid
A change in Cervical fluid is a sign that you are ovulating. When your cervical fluid is like “egg whites” it is a sign that you are either ovulating or really close to ovulating. During ovulation is when you have the most amount of wet fluid.
Change in Basal Body Temperature
Did you know your basal body temperature is pretty consistent, except when you are ovulating or about to ovulate? When you are getting closer to ovulate then you will have a decline in your basal body temperature, but then as soon as you ovulate it will spike.
Tracking your basal body temperature for a few months will help you determine when you are ovulating each month, which helps you to know the best time to try and conceive.
Changes in Cervix
Observing the changes in your cervix will help you understand when you are ovulating. While you are ovulating your cervix is soft and high and wet.
It takes a bit of time to be able to notice the changes in your cervix, but over time you will be able to notice these changes.
Other Signs of Ovulation Include
- Light Spotting
- Cramping or pain in your pelvis
- Sore Breasts
- Bloating
- Heightened Sex Desire (your husband will be happy!)
If this feels like a daunting task you can always buy an ovulation test kit to help you know when you are ovulating.
If you are trying for a certain gender it is crucial to know the signs of ovulation!
Changes Inside Your Body
Even though you can’t feel it your uterine lining is thickening to prepare for implantation like it would with every menstrual cycle. This time is different. Your ovary releases an egg and it takes a journey and travels down the fallopian tube where the sperm cell is waiting to fertilize the egg. Sperm can live for up to 5 days inside waiting for the ovary to release an egg. Even though you can’t feel the sperm meeting the egg many women feel cramping which is the implantation on the uterus wall. Many women even experience spotting or light vaginal bleeding during this time.
Your Body Changes at 2 Weeks Pregnant
- Different cervical mucus: your cervix mucus will become thin and white egg-like. This allows the sperm to travel up the cervix more easily.
- Abdominal pain: Some report a sharp pain when the egg is released
- Increased Sex Drive: Since you know now is the time that chances are best to get pregnant you libido increases around ovulation
- Sensitivity to smell: As hormones change so does your sense of smell around the first few days of pregnancy
- Changes in basal body temperature: tracking your basal body temperature can help you know exactly when you are ovulating.
Sex at 2 Weeks Pregnant
Since you have been tracking your ovulation and are recognizing the changes in your cervical mucus now is the time to have sex, and lots of it. Your egg only lives for 12 to 24 hours so having sex morning, noon, and night (if possible) will increase your chances of the sperm making it’s way up the fallopian tube because only one or two will actually make it up the right way! Since sperm can live up to 5 days after being released starting before ovulation gives you a better success rate!
What to Do During Week 2 of Pregnancy
There are many things you can do to prepare during your 2nd week of your pregnancy!
Have Sex
Having Sex is a crucial step in week 2 of pregnancy because without it you will not get pregnant this month. So make time to track your cycle and when you are ovulating so you know when is the perfect time.
Start Taking your Prenatal Vitamins
If you haven’t already, now is the time to start taking your prenatal vitamins. This helps your baby to develop and get the nutrients that they need.
Exercise
If you are exercising continue as you have been.
If you have not been exercising there is no better time to start than now.
Caffeine Consumption
If you love caffeine now is the time to start cutting back. Too much caffeine is not good for your baby.
Alcohol
If you drink alcohol then you will want to start cutting back or stopping.
Medication
If you are currently taking medications, talk with your doctor about your medications and make sure they are safe to take while pregnant.
Eat Right
Now is the time to continue or to start eating right. Lots of fruits and vegetables and proteins.
Final Thoughts on Conceiving a Baby
I remember with my last 2 babies I wanted to be pregnant so badly, I did everything I was supposed too, tracked my ovulation cycle had sex at all the right times and I still couldn’t get pregnant.
I put so much pressure on myself and my marriage trying to have a baby. It became a chore rather than an enjoyable experience. In fact, I started to hate ovulation week because of the stress I felt.
Don’t do this.
Enjoy the time bonding with your spouse! Conceiving a baby is supposed to be a fun enjoyable time in your life! So take a step back and relax.
Have fun and work on having that baby and if it doesn’t happen this month, just keep practicing!
