“Mickey and the Magical Map”, a new live stage production, premiered in the newly refurbished Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland Park last Saturday, May 25 and we had the chance to see this magical production!

The new Fantasy Land Theatre offers the perfect setting for live outdoor performances mixed with the magical technology that Disney brings to all their shows.  In “Mickey and the Magical Map”, guests are taken on a series of adventures through 6 different locations on the map along to classic Disney songs like “I Wan’na Be Like You” from The Jungle Book to mashing up mixes from Pocahontas, Mulan and Tangled.  The production also includes an original song “Journey to Imagination” written especially for the show.

We loved watching Mickey splash his paint brush about in attempt to paint one unfinished spot on his magical map. The map, a giant (1 million pixels) LED screen, acts as one of the main characters of the show and a multi-level stage for Mickey and the other marvelous characters.  The talent that Disney attracts for their shows always astounds me.  For this production, over 900 people auditioned for a cast of +50 dancers and singers.  I was definitely WOW’d with the beautiful voices, music and magical moves.

Although the talent, theatrics and and technology are brilliant, I always love the lessons of the Disney shows most.  In this case, the lesson of the map is that “you are a masterpiece just the way you are“.  Go ahead and leave that one unfinished spot unpainted, maybe leaving it unfinished will take you on the journey you are meant to take.

A big thank you to the Canadian Disney PR team who hosted our stay at the beautiful Grand Califronian Hotel and our Disneyland experience – Angela Saclamacis and Joyce Richards.  Opinions, as always, are my own.
