A nice feature for families when planning a resort stay is the availability of different dining options and ones that have kid appeal. On our arrival at Hawks Cay resort, our first stop was Tom’s Harbor House . The restaurant has a large indoor seating area as well as a covered deck outside. We enjoyed an array of different seafood options. I loved my Mahi Mahi fish sandwich, but there were a lot of meat lover options available too. Kids can choose from the main menu, perhaps something from the appetizer menu, but you could order some staples like mac and cheese off the children’s menu.

Although fishing isn’t something our family participates in, I love the whole Hook and Cook option available at Tom’s Harbor House. Just bring your fresh catch to the restaurant and they’ll prepare it fried, grilled or blackened and pair it with delicious family-style side dishes. The cost is determined by the size of the catch. A great option even for the novice fishermen who doesn’t want to get his or her hands dirty.

If you’re hanging out at the main pool or lagoon, the Beach Grill gives you the ability to enjoy a lunch or cocktail without having to change out of your swimsuit. From light snacks such as conch fritters and pita chips with hummus, to larger dishes like burgers and sandwiches. Of course you can also enjoy a collection of tasty mojitos, frozen cocktails and other drinks. The Beach Grill has an outside seating area but they do also take orders and make deliveries poolside. Over in the Indies Club, you can grab a bit at the Indies Grill.

For a nice dinner out, take the family to Alma with its Caribbean and Latin-inspired dishes. Unlike the other dining options, reservations are recommended at Alma and we booked dinner right from our villa. Parents may feel a little apprehensive taking their kids out for fine dining however, the staff at Alma were very welcoming to families. Alma’s dining menu changes daily based on the selection of fressh local seafood and ingredients available. The food was wonderful but if you like margaritas you have to try Alma’s Smokey Grilled Grapefruit margarita.

A vacation isn’t a vacation without a treat and the best treat I can think of is ice cream. Hawk’s Cay has some of the best in the form of Emack and Bolio’s. Located down by the marina, Emack and Bolio quickly became a regular stop for us each day on our stay. And if you’re a big coffee drinker, Starbucks coffee is served, along with tasty bakery treats, in the coffee bar in the main lobby.

Even with all the dining options available at Hawks Cay, sometimes a full day at the resort means everyone’s just too tired to head out. If you’re staying in one of the rooms located in the main building, you can order in-room dining. That doesn’t mean your stuck when you’re in your villa. We order in a pizza and I’ll be the first to admit, it was some of the best pizza delivery we’ve had in awhile. You can order right from your room phone.
