It may not look like much, a small dive of a spot within a strip of stores, but the Beach Shanty Café quickly became a favourite breakfast stop for us in Clearwater, Florida. Our hotel, the Hilton Beach Resort, offered a few breakfast options, including a coffee bar serving Starbucks; however, eating at the hotel every day could get expensive.

Looking for a quick and inexpensive breakfast option, we stumbled upon The Beach Shanty Café right across the street. The inside was like a dive, with booths all crammed together and filled with regulars and locals. The best part about The Beach Shanty Café was the food. We could grab a breakfast of one egg, homefries and toast for $2.99 US, perfect for the kids.

They also offer a selection of omelettes and egg sandwiches, as well as other standard breakfast fare like pancakes and waffles. I should warn you the omelettes are big; one could have served two of our kids (and they’re big eaters). I loved the egg sandwich myself. You can see their breakfast and lunch menus here (they’re not open for dinner).

The food is standard dive breakfast fare, but the friendly service and speedy delivery of our order (not to mention the cost) made The Beach Shanty Cafe a regular morning stop for us on our Florida vacation.
