When choosing what to wear, or rather what NOT to wear, it’s important to remember that flattering clothes are not just about fabric, color and style – they are also about your body shape and what fits it best. The following are a few basic tips to help you choose the most flattering clothes for your figure.
To balance out your body shape, wear form-fitting tops with fluid bottoms such as wide leg pants or bootcut jeans. Skinny jeans and cigarette pants will make your thighs look bigger, so it’s best to avoid them.
Baby-doll-style tops and dresses are perfect for you, especially when paired with tighter sleeves and pants (if everything you wear is roomy and large, you could end up looking heavier). Avoid wearing anything that draws attention to your belly, such as high-waist pants or tight tops.
The most flattering clothes for you create the illusion of curves. Tight-fitting pants with flared bottoms are great, and so are tight fitting tops that have bell sleeves.
If you don’t want to look larger than you already are, avoid polo neck tops. Instead, go with wrap-style and with V-neck tops and dresses. Avoid wearing very tight tops, but don’t go for boxy or roomy either. Never wear huge, shapeless clothes! Those will make you look bigger, and anyway, the notion that plus-size women must hide themselves is totally dated. The most flattering clothes for your body shape have great fit and structure. It’s better to buy a few high-quality items than lots of poorly made clothes. Remember that the combination of a well fitting wide-leg trouser and a V-neck top is classic, feminine and slimming.
Regardless of your body shape, the most flattering clothes have a great fit, so always buy the size that fits you best, even if you need to go up a size. No one looks at the tag anyway!
