We expect people in the service industry to treat us respectfully because that is their job. But then you encounter a person who goes beyond their duty and seems genuinely interested in assisting you, making things easier, even when you don’t outright ask. It’s these people, this exceptional service that can turn a good experience into a memorable one.

If you’ve ever experienced great service you know first hand what I’m talking about. Someone doing something for you, because they want to and not because they have to, makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. We’re not just saying this; research proves it to be true.  When we feel good about great service, we tend to share it with others.

Great service is one reason we choose certain brands, like the restaurants we eat in, hotels we stay in, even the credit cards we use.  Exceptional service and premium treatment is what makes me an American Express Cardmember and proud Amex Ambassador.

American Express is committed to delivering the world’s best service experience. Join them Oct 7 to 11, 2013 as they celebrate Customer Service Week and get people talking with their #ServiceSpotlight Twitter contest.

Each day American Express will ask a service related question. Reply to each question using the hashtag #ServiceSpotlight and enter for a chance to win a daily $1,000 Amex gift card. Be sure to follow @AmexCanada on twitter so you don’t miss a question. You can see the full contest rules www.thesweepstakesrules.com

As a family traveling we’ve had our share of negative experiences but it’s the positive ones that make us happy. My children still talk about Josephine. She was just someone who worked at a resort we stayed at in Florida but that changed when she taught my kids hula-hoop tricks on a rainy afternoon. She didn’t have to, my kids were content with entertaining themselves, but that experience is forever ingrained in their vacation memories and it’s one reason we would visit that resort again.
