When the kids were little Christmas shopping was easy, well, easier. A new doll or blocks or a box of crayons. Now gift wish lists consist of words like megapixels, Bluetooth, and gigabytes. To make it possible to put a few shiny tech gifts under the tree this year, we checked out the Best Buy Black Friday sale.

It can be easy to get distracted when gift shopping, sometimes overwhelming, so my husband and I started our shopping experience by compiling our list from BestBuy.ca and then we hit our local shop during the VIP Pre-Black Friday sale.

The staff (aka Blue Shirt Elf personal shoppers) were great at directing us through the store and highlighting sale items that fell into our shopping categories.

My oldest daughter is all about her phone so a good set of headphones were on her list. We just missed picking up the special Sennheiser bluethooth headphones but with the Marley headphones at 50% off were too good to pass up.

I loved the WiiU Splatoon bundle on sale, a great family gift. So great that we already own it. Movies are always a holiday favourite, something Santa brings for the whole family, and Best Buy had a few great films. We were able to pick-up the latest Jurassic World to add to our collection and Mad Max for my Mother-In-Law (yes she’s a fan), both on sale for the Black Friday weekend only.

I’m a big fan of wearable tech and Best Buy had quiet the collection on sale. I actually bought my first Fitbit from Best Buy years ago so perhaps it’s time to upgrade to the Fitbit Charge HR, especially when it’s on sale. If you have a Minecraft fan like my son, he might love the Gameband Minecraft. It lets you take your game anywhere to play plus it comes preloaded with maps. The discount price makes it doable too.

Items for the home make great gifts too, especially items that make things easier like the August Bluetooth Smart Lock. No need to worry about digging out your keys or cutting special keys for the cat sitter with this customizable locking system.

It’s great to have an organized list but it’s hard not to just wander and browse the deals. If we didn’t we would never have found the perfect Sony alarm clock with radio for our son. Not all gifts have to have a big ticket price to impress the kids. And of course any tech gift list has to include batteries which we found also included in the Black Friday sale.

Whether you’re looking for gifts for your tech savvy kids or tools to make life a little easier with home automation and wearable tech, Best Buy Black Friday sale weekend should be one of your shopping stops.

Thanks to the folks at Best Buy for setting up a tour with the Blue Shirt Elves to take us through their Best Buy deals.
