Halloween may just be one night but as a family we enjoy the build-up. We love getting the house and costumes ready, working on some Halloween crafts (here are 51 great ideas to inspire you) and counting down the days until the big night. Watching TV specials is another fun way to get ready for the season with the family.

Grab some roasted pumpkin seeds, turn the lights down low and watch some of these holiday specials with the kids.

TVO Kids
TVOKids gets into the Halloween spirit this October with spooky and educational programming beginning on-air for TVOKids’ Halloween Week – October 22 to October 31. TVOKids has set-up a dedicated Halloween site where you’ll find printable pages and online games. You can enjoy some Halloween fun on-air too:

The Space (weekdays from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm, weekends from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm)
Beginning on October 22, The Space hosts Kara, Dalmar and Drew teach kids how to make homemade costumes and carve pumpkins, and talk to viewers about Halloween safety in live segments.

Sid the Science Kid! Halloween Spooky Science Special (Saturaday, October 27, 8:00 a.m.)
It’s Halloween time and Sid and his friends have dressed up in the spookiest and scariest costumes possible. Susie helps the kids discover that Halloween can be spooky and scientific!

Martha Speaks Marth Gets Spooked (Saturday, October 27, 10:30 a.m.)
Someone, or some ghost, is fixing up the haunted house!

Wild Kratts A Bat in the Brownies (Saturday, October 27, 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, 6:00 p.m.)

D.W. gets a case of the hiccups that just won’t go away. Well, at least her Halloween costume as “Hiccup Girl” is all set. Will D.W. ever get relief?

Word Girl Tobey’s Tricks and Treats (Tuesday, October 30, 6:30 p.m.)
After losing the costume contest at school, Tobey sets his Robots on a candy-stealing spree and vows to ruin Halloween.

Jelly Jam Haunted Castel (Wednesday, October 31, 3:30 p.m.)

Family Channel
Family delivers a Monstober line-up of shriek-worthy season premieres and fright-filled flicks.

Frightful Flicks (throughout the month on Friday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT and on weekends at 12 p.m. ET/PT and 9 p.m. ET/PT)
Titles including Spooky Buddies, Twitches, Twitches Too, Return to Halloweentown and Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie.

October 31, Family rolls out Halloween-themed episodes of fan-favourite series including Gravity Falls, Austin & Ally, A.N.T. Farm, Good Luck Charlie, Really Me and Jessie all day long.

Disney Junior
Disney Junior celebrates Halloween with treats including Halloween-themed episodes every weekend throughout October from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET. The not-so-scary line-up includes new episodes of Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Doc McStuffins and Handy Manny.

Little ones can play the new Jake and the Never Land Pirates game “Bucky’s Halloween Haunt” and will find brand new Halloween-themed activities and colouring sheets on a supersite found at Disneyjunior.ca

Disney XD
Monster Mayhem takes over Disney XD bringing with it spine-tingling episode premieres throughout the month. New Halloween-themed episodes of Slugterra, Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil, Lab Rats, Fish Hooks, Motorcity join the line-up along with a premiere episode of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja guest starring Sarah Hyland (Modern Family)where Randy and Howard try to figure out what is turning everyone into zombies.

Monster Mayhem (Sunday, October 28 beginning at 4 p.m.)
Viewers can catch a special back-to- back Halloween-themed episodes and movies.

The frights continue on Halloween Day with a marathon of favourite episodes starting at 6 a.m. ET.

Teletoon
Creepy creatures and scary specters abound in TELETOON’s Halloween programming, airing from Friday, October 19 to Wednesday, October 31, 2012.

Can’t Miss Thursday (Thursday, October 25, 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
A night of back-to-back squeals during a special Halloween-inspired programming block,featuring brand new Halloween episodes of fan favourites, Adventure Time with Finn Jake, Johnny Test and My Babysitter’s a Vampire as well as a special presentation of Scared Shreckless.

Scooby-Doo! Music of the Vampire (Saturday, October 27, 10 a.m.)

Monsters Vs. Aliens (Every weeknight from October 19 until October 31, 4 p.m.)
Halloween on TELETOON kicks off with a special presentation and continues throughout the weekends and every weeknight.

Also running from October 19 to October 31, the Scooby-Doo! Monster Mash Up Contest offers TELETOON fans a chance to win a family trip for four to New York City to see Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries. In this watch n’ win contest, a Mystery Machine revealing a daily secret code word will appear sporadically throughout TELETOON’s Halloween programming.
