The Everywhere Bear has a wonderful time with the children in Grade 1, but one day he gets more than he bargained for when he falls unnoticed from a backpack and embarks on his own big adventure! He gets washed down a drain and whooshed out to sea, rescued by a fishing boat and loaded onto a lorry, only to be carried off by a seagull! How will he ever make it back to his classroom?
The Everywhere Bear reminds me of the bear that visited our home, each time one of my kids entered grade 1. My kids loved this companion, a character in the house to because of them. The relationship between kids and this bear, both in my experience and as expressed in this story, makes a beautiful tale.
The fact that the Bear gets separated from his current classmate buddy and goes off on an journey of his own just adds to the whimsy of adventure and imagination. We witness the journey as a reader but can only imagine what stories the classroom kids conjure up in their minds. It taps into that young age where kids still believe in magic and that their toys have another life when they’re not around. A lovely addition to any home (or perhaps your school) library.
