When the weight of the world is on your shoulders, it’s easy to feel off balance.

It’s time to admit it — being a mom isn’t for the faint of heart.  On a daily basis, you might face stress, frustration, all while having to summon your inner patience time and time again.

There are seemingly millions of tasks mothers must take on, but perhaps the most important one is simply learning to balance all of these responsibilities and demands without losing sight of their own needs and mental well-being.

Here are 4 strategies for balancing your inner world and outer world, all while keeping your cool.

1. Feeling busy?  Take a breather

Moms are busy – it’s part of the job description.

On any given day, there are sports practices, PTA meetings, church activities, school homework, band practice, errands, meals to prepare, a house to clean, children to care for and other items on that bottomless list of things to get done.

That doesn’t leave too much extra time for moms to spend focusing inward on their personal needs and desires.

The first step to finding balance in your own life is simply taking time to check in with yourself

Place your hand on your heart, meditate, take an exercise class, watch your favorite television show, get pampered at a salon, or simply kick back in a bubble bath and relax for a few minutes.

A few moments of “me” time can declutter your mind and recharge you for the precious moments of “mom” time.

2. Plan a “staycation”

As life gets more hectic and schedules fill up rapidly, it’s easy to forget to make time for the most important people in your life.

Sure, you may see your spouse and your children every day, but between comings and goings, it’s easy to disconnect.

Creating little pockets of quality time are invaluable and will likely create lasting memories to be cherished for years to come.

Vacations can get expensive and require extensive planning and forethought, but “staycations” can be as easy and stress-free as a day spent at home filled with exciting activities for the family.

Plan an intimate date night with your partner, a day baking cookies and sweet treats with your kids, or snuggle on the couch and have a movie marathon day with the whole gang.

3. Embrace healthy habits

After a long day of work, carpool, after-school activities, cooking dinner, getting homework done, getting the kids to bed, and focusing on the needs of all of your children, it might seem nearly impossible to find the time to schedule a workout, much less to get to a gym.

Still, making fitness a priority has lasting benefits, ranging from mental clarity and happiness to physical health, an increase in stamina, and a stronger immune system.

Trying your best to incorporate healthy meals into your families’ diet and to exercise regularly can lead to a greater overall sense of well-being.  If you can’t make it to spin class, don’t fret.

Perhaps, take a walk around the block, shoot some hoops with your children, or start your day with a morning yoga session. You already do the impossible, Mama, and this is nothing you can’t handle.

4. Looking good, feeling better

Motherhood is a funny thing.  Sometimes you might be dressed-to-the-nines and ready to put your best foot forward, while other days you might be perfectly content to leave the house donning yesterday’s t-shirt and slippers. It happens.

Still, one of the most tried-and-true methods of reigniting self-esteem and shaking off stress is simply getting dressed in the morning in a way that makes you feel confident about your appearance.

It is a beautiful thing to know that even when you are an everyday “supermom,” you can still look trendy while doing it.

Take a few moments in the morning to style your hair, to put on fresh makeup, to choose an outfit that makes you feel ready for anything, or to just admire your natural beauty.

These small steps can provide a little daily boost in confidence and energy, making you look and feel put-together and ready to tackle your daily to-do list.

As a mom who “does it all,” it’s natural to feel tired, overworked, or to simply feel you’ve lost your inner balance.

Remember, “with great power, comes great responsibility,” and if that is the case, mothers are powerful beyond measure.

You move mountains with your strength, Mama, but it’s okay to take a break every now and then to re-center and recharge.

Your body and mind will thank you.
