My kids love grabbing a piece of fruit or munching on some veggies sticks as a snack in the evening but sometimes we all feel like something a little different. Now a new favourit snack is a Chocolate Banana Smoothie. It’s so easy and it’s made with a handful of items in your fridge.
I first started making banana smooties as a way to use up ripe bananas. I would peel and chop them into chunks and toss them in the freezer. Add some milk, peanut butter and raw honey to a blender along with the frozen banana chunks and you have something that is reminicent of a milkshake but one that is a little better for you.
To make two servings I use the following:
2 cups chopped bananas, frozen
1 cup milk
1 tbsp smooth peanut butter
1 tsp raw honey
Toss everything in a blender and puree to breakdown all the banana.
I use frozen banana to avoid adding ice and watering down the drink. Frozen banana seems to make the smoothie thicker too. We originally started making these banana smoothies using regular milk but then I tried Natrel’s Dark Chocolate Milk. I had to try it in the smoothie recipe and everyone loved it. The original recipe is also very good, just substitute regular milk for the chocolate. The honey adds a touch of sweetness though my husband finds it’s too sweet for him and the peanut butter adds a little protein.
I’m not handy in the kitchen, I’m not one to create recipes from scratch (and this is probably based on something out there) but this is so easy to put together and it makes a delightfully filling snack.
Are you a smoothie fan? What sort of smoothies have you made?
