Celebrating a pregnancy or the arrival of a new baby can be exciting especially during the holidays but I must admit drinking a glass of sparkling water while everyone else enjoys festive cocktails can be a little disappointing. The new Momosas Fun Alcohol-Free Drinks for Expecting Moms changes that with a collection of great recipes including this lemonade based Blueberry Twinkle.
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t feel bad that I couldn’t consume alcohol when I was pregnant or breastfeeding but the drinks offered to me were usually uninspiring and a tad boring. This compact recipe book will inspire a lot of festive drinks without a trip to the liquor store. There’s even a recipe to make simple syrup, a staple in many drink recipes.
You’ll find a number of sweet blender drinks like Hot Mama using vanilla ice cream and ginger beer and Sweet Cravings using pineapples and yogurt. If you’re not a big blender drink fan you’ll find a collection of Sangrias like the Nana-Gria, Fizzes and Sparklers such as The Pacifier, a collection of Mocktails as well as Lemonades like the Blueberry Twinkle. I love this recipe because it’s so easy to make with obtainable ingredients but it offers you more than just a glass of lemonade.
Blueberry Twinkle
1 leaf fresh basil
3 or 4 fresh blueberries
lemonade
- Tear the basil leaf into small pieces and place in the bottom of a tall glass
- Add three or four fresh blueberries and muddle with a muddler or a wooden spoon.
- Fill the glass with crushed ice and then fill with lemonade.
The Kitchn shares a great tutorial on Muddling in case this is a new technique to you. This will come in handy whenever you’re adding fresh ingredients into a drink.
Of course like any drink book you’ll find easy recipes like the one above and more complex recipes. I love that the book offers so much variety, using pretty accessible ingredients and the new mama drink names are corny but cute. Momosas. Fun Alcohol-Free Drinks For Expecting Moms would make a great gift for a expectant or new mom as well as anyone looking to cut alcohol out of their diet. I’m long past the new baby stage but I love that this book enables me to entertain designated drivers as well as kids with some fun recipes beyond just a glass of cranberry juice.

I’m not a huge fan of blueberries, but strawberries would go well too I think. Looks like a great book!
I love blueberries too Freda. I keep a bunch in the freezer to use all year long since their so seasonal. I think strawberries would be a nice mix too. I’ll have to try that. Great suggestion.
