I am heading to the warm sandy beaches of Florida. To keep myself busy I am packing a beach bag filled with a few essentials. Here are my 7 beach must have items.

Of course a fun beach bag is the place to start. I love the two colours on this Contrast Tote from Ardene (2/$20). It comes in four different colour combinations but the green reminds me of the sea.

Sunscreen is a must to protect you from the harmful rays. I’m already a fan of Consonant’s natural products (I talked about them in a previous post on creating a skincare routine). I chose Consonant’s 100% Natural Matte Finish Sunscreen because non-greasy and it is not suppose to leave a white residue. It protects you from both UVA and UVB sunrays.

A wide rimmed sun hat is another good way to protect you from the sun. I also find that if I sit in the sun for too long I start to not feel so well. This Merona Packable Floppy Hat ($14.99 US) in black from Target can easily be folded up and put away in my bag when I’m not wearing it (like when I’m swimming).

I love the feel of sand between my toes but it can get hot (and sticky when you come out of the water). You need a towel and one that reflects your personality. That’s why I picked this Medallion Beach Towel also from Target ($15.29US)  The stencil print reminds me of fashion and art, two of my favourite things.

Some people can open their eyes under water. I cannot. These Aqua Sphere Junior Vista Swimming Goggles from Sporting Life ($34.99 Cdn) have a big lens which is great for searching for shells underwater.

Sometimes I like to just sit on the sand, in the sun. Reading a good book is a way to keep you busy. A little high school fun about prom agony should make Prom and Prejudice from Scholastic a fun beach read.

Having a little snack that isn’t TOO healthy is also important too since I know my mom won’t give-in to buying those beachside snacks I have a talent for finding. I heard about these new snacks from Dare Foods, Grissol Sweet Thins. They are like Melba toast but they are supposed to be sweeter. You can get Banana Bread, Chocolate Brownie and Lemon Poppy Seed. You probably guessed my choice (hint: chocolate). I think my mom might even agree since she likes the crackers from Grissol.

With my beach bag full of these essentials I don’t expect to be bored on the beach. That should make my mom happy. What are your beach essentials? Have you enjoyed any good beach reads this summer?
