I love to buy gifts give to my friends but that can get expensive. This year I wanted to try something different. I wanted to see if I could make my money go further with a little DIY idea.

I love the holiday items at Philosophy, like their Peppermint Stick Body Wash, Shampoo and Bubble Bath. With a few items at home and from the dollar store I was able to turn one bottle of the Peppermint Stick into three gifts for friends and a treat for me.

You will need:

  • A bottle of Peppermint Stick bubble bath from Philosophy (or whatever scent you want to gift)
  • Some sort of small container. I found little plastic jars with lids at the Dollar Store (3 for $1.00).
  • Packing tape
  • Ribbon, string or whatever you want to use to decorate your container
  • Hot glue
  • Candy canes (This is a great project for those broken candy canes you have at home)
  • Labels

Step 1. You’ll want to decorate your containers before adding your bubble bath. This just makes it easier. You can just tie ribbon or string around your container but the Epson LabelWorks printer lets you print right onto ribbon. I created a personal message that said “Merry Christmas from Verity”. Make sure you keep the ribbon long enough to tie a bow. I printed my ribbon message three times to get a long enough ribbon. You can use some hot glue or a little tape to secure the ribbon to the container to stop it from slipping.

Step 2. Since I was giving my friends a Peppermint Stick bubble bath I decided to add some candy canes to my containers. Break or cut your candy canes into 3 or 4 pieces so they can fit on the top of the lid. This is perfect for those broken candy canes no one wants to eat.

Step 3. Using a hot glue gun I glued the candy cane sticks to the lid to hold them in place. Since I was going to put a label on my jars I covered the candy canes with packing tape and trimmed off the extra tape.

Step 4. Make a label that says what it is. For example: Peppermint Stick bubble bath. The Epson LabelWorks let me create labels with borders and symbols, which was nice. I just stuck these labels across the candy canes on the lid. Now my friends will know what’s in the containers.

Step 5. Now that your containers are decorated you can fill them with the bubble bath. The one bottle of Philosophy Peppermint Stick filled three small containers and gave me lots of extra bubble bath for me to use.

I think my friends will like my gift to them. The best part is that the gifts only cost me $7 for the bubble bath + $1 for 3 bottles + ribbon I had at home = $8. That means each gift cost me less than $3 each. Pretty good. Gifts for your friends don’t have to be expensive. I hope this inspires you to try something different for gift ideas.

Bye for now,

Verity
