Whether you run on your own for fun or have been thinking of starting, participating in a 5k can feel daunting. The Color Run celebrates health, happiness, and individuality as runners are sprinkled with a rainbow of colours along their route. And now the popular run has come to Canada.
Unlike other more mainstream 5k runs, the Color Run encourages more fun than competition. The idea is to get people out and being active while supporting a local charity. Each kilometer sees a different coloured powder filling the air, sprinkling down on the runners as they pass. From white to bright, by the end of the 5k runners are adorned in a rainbow of colours.
The Color Run wants to encourage participation within all ages, sizes, and fitness levels and in keeping with the fun feel there are no official race winners or times.
“The Color Run is all about having fun and healthy living, while giving back to local charities,” said Travis Snyder, founder of The Color Run. “The event brings the community together and creates energy so positive it’s contagious. Our mantra is ‘Be Happy. Be Healthy. Be You’.”
Founded by Travis Snyder in January 2012, the Color Run visited more than 50 sites with more than 600 000 participants in 2012. With the run’s popularity those numbers are expected to grow in 2013 with more than 100 events and an estimated 1 million participants.
Canadians will have their chance to participate in three runs as the Color Run makes it’s Canadian Debut in 2013: London, On (Aug 17), Ottawa, ON (Aug 25), and Vancouver, BC (Sept 14).
If you’re looking for a fun induction into the 5k cub, what better way than showered in colour.
