Synopsis from Raincoast Books:

It’s the best of the worst! This hardcover, full-color edition of the popular series loved by parents and kids alike serves up a wild ride through mudslides, volcanos, shark-infested oceans, menacing mountains, and more. Seventy entries are packed with illuminating facts, eye-popping photos, hilarious illustrations, must-see maps, heaps of humor, and step-by-step instructions. Readers will be armed with the knowledge and skills needed to survive anything — and live to tell about it!

I don’t think my kids are alone when it comes to a fascination with scary, deadly creatures or scenarios. They pretend to be avoiding shark attacks in the backyard and falling into quicksand in their rooms. Now kids can get their facts straight with The Worst-Case-Scenario Survive-O-Pedia, Junior Edition.

In worst-case-scenario form, the Survive-O-Pedia provides you with interesting facts in a concise, easy to follow format, outlining the dangers and solutions for each creature or element in a two-page spread. The clearly numbered tips are a great way to inform kids on the best way to survie an attack that will probably never happen. The photography puts kids face-to-face with the danger being talked about while the fun illustrations keep the book light.

I thought this would be a fun, quick read one night, but my kids were hooked, choosing a new danger to learn about. We’ve been through the whole book once and now we’re revisiting our favourite scenarios. And the facts the kids pick-up are actually sticking (did you know that peeing on a jelly fish sting does nothing? My son was a little dissapointed by this busted myth). I should warn you Survive-O-Pedia isn’t for the child with a wild imagination. After reading about scorpions hiding in shoes and your bedsheets, my son took an extra 20-minutes to get to bed because we had to check his sheets thoroughly.
