Where’s the Baboon
Enchanted Lion Books / Publishers Group Canada Books
By Michael Escoffier, illustrated by Kris Di Giacomo
40 pages
age 3-5

Synopsis from PGC Books:

Step right up, fearless readers! Today, in this very book, we will PROVE to you that a snake can hide in a snowflake, that pigs can paint, and that the ones who copy the most are not necessarily cats! Prepare to be AMAZED by the game of hide-n-seek the words play! These tricksters are true experts in the art of camouflage!

What child hasn’t enjoyed a game of hide-and-seek? Where’s the Baboon? brings the game into a story in a smart and unexpected way. Each double-spread page of the book poses a question to the reader with the answer hidden in the question. I love the clever use of finding smaller new words in a larger word. Not to worry, the letters to the new word are highlighted making it easy to spot and the full page illustrations also guide kids to the answer. This fun idea may even have you thinking of your own words within words.

Additional Reading: Sometimes We think You Are a Monkey.
