Steam Train, Dream Train
Chronicle Books/Raincoast Books
age 3-5
Written by Sherri Duskey; Illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld
40 pages
Synopsis from Raincoast Books:
The dream train pulls into the station, and one by one the train cars are loaded: polar bears pack the reefer car with ice cream, elephants fill the tanker cars with paints, tortoises stock the auto rack with race cars, bouncy kangaroos stuff the hopper car with balls. Sweet and silly dreams are guaranteed for any budding train enthusiasts!
We enjoyed Duskey and Lichtenheld’s earlier bedtime book Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site. Following a similar vein, Steam Train, Dream Train will have your future train engineers chugging off to sleep. Each page has you visiting the animals as they get the train loaded and ready for the next day’s adventure. You’ll visit tankers with elephants and polar bears in reefer cars (refrigerator cars). Some cars I’ve never heard of but your train lover might know them. Once packed up, the animals sleep as the train puff-puff-puffs along to the next destination, a perfect way to drift off to sleep.
