Mix & Match
Melissa & Doug K’s Kids
age 0-3

Synopsis from Melissa & Doug:

Can you find all the animal friends? Turn the crinkly flaps to build a face that matches–or create a silly creature all your own! This crinkling, lift-the-flap, mixed-up-animals cloth book from Melissa & Doug K’s Kids is durably constructed to last through story time, playtime, and the washing machine, too!

You may have gathered from our contribution to the Melissa and Doug Playtime Press Blog that I am a big fan of the brand’s creative and interactive toys. True. I also love their soft interactive books for the smallest family members.

Mix & Match has no words but invites little ones to build cute animal characters like koala or lion (six animals in total). The pages of the book are divided into three strips making an animal face (ears, eyes, mouth). Kids can also create their own creatures, mixing the strips up, like a Leoalanda (leopard ears, koala eyes, and a panda mouth). What would your child name his or her crazy creature?

Even if your child is too little to understand the process of building an animal’s face, Mix & Match will keep them interested by grabbing and moving the different page strips. The pages make a fun crinkle sound as little fingers grip them and the material means the book can be tossed into the wash after they’ve been chewed on and chomped.
