Synopsis from Simon Schuster Canada:
Meet Cosmoe, the Earth-Boy. He’s captain of the Neon Weiner, the finest flying food truck in the galaxy. Along with his bud, Big Humphree, he spends his days cruising the cosmos and staying crazy busy… 1. Cooking up a Mega-Dog. (Dude, this hot dog is the size of a jeep!), 2. Escaping mutant worm monsters, zombie space pirates, and grumpy robots. (What the butt?!), 3. Playing Super Moon Ninja Death Jab (Turbo Ear Slap! 9,000 points!!), 4. And…PROTECTING THE GALAXY from the Ultimate Evil. (He’s kind of an awesome space guy.)
Reading Galactic Hot Dogs. Cosmoe’s Wiener Getaway reminded me of watching my two youngest play. the fantastic adventure in space, fighting The Boss Worm at the Mutant Worm Wrestling Federation, trying to stop the ultimate evil from falling into the wrong hands. The experiences of earth boy Cosmoe, his friend Humphree and the unlikely companion evil Princess Dagger are so over the top that kids will relish reading each page of this graphic novel.
Along with the adventure, and there are a few the team encounters on the way to stop the Ultimate Evil, there’s a great story of friendship. Cosmoe and Humphree have been friends for a long time but the addition of Princess Dagger changes things. She comes from a family of evil rulers and has been raised to be evil but Princess Dagger believes she can be different. Even when she is tested on her resolve to follow a different path than her mother, and even faulters, Cosmoe and Humphree still believe in her. In addition to the story, readers will find some fun pages at the end including fact sheets and galaxy maps taking the experience beyond just the story and leaving kids anticipating new books in what is planned as a series.
Galactic Hot Dogs. Cosmoe’s Wiener Getaway is a fun and silly read of space adventure and friendship that your middle grader will devour. I don’t doubt I will see my kids enacting scenarios from the book and creating new
