Synopsis from Home Grown Books:
This board book features 12 pages of stunning full page paintings by artist Cecile Dyer. Let’s play Dress Up!.
Art meets early concepts. Clothes are as much a part of sharing our identity as they are a functional way of protecting us from the elements. You could say the board book Dress Up is a concept book, highlighting various clothing items both visually and with the associated text, but how it portrays these items makes it a little different.
Kids will love seeing what clothing item each creative cat selects, giving them a sense of each animal’s personality. The cat in the vest isn’t just about the vest but it gets you personifying that cat and who he is or could be. What a great way to explore clothing and start a conversation beyond just the words on the page. The lovely art work for Dress Up has been created by New York artist Cecile Dyer. That’s one of the elements that drew me to Home Grown Books. Concept and early books introduced to children rely greatly on images and the collaboration with local artists to carry the art work in these children’s books is delightful. The fact that the books are made in the USA, printed in New York on 100% recycled paper makes me love these board books even more.
