Synopsis from Raincoast Books:

From debut author-illustrator Stephen Shaskan comes this lively picture book that will keep young readers guessing (and giggling!) from beginning to end. With its wacky illustrations, bouncy text, and spot-on humor, A Dog Is a Dog is a fantastic read-aloud that kids will clamor to hear again and again.

A Dog is a Dog starts out like any cute rhyming story, talking about dogs and their behaviour. But a dog is a dog, unless it’s a …CAT! The cute doggy unzips his dog costume to reveal a cat underneath.

Now kids are taken through a rhyme about the cat’s behaviour and antics. There are three more surprising animal reveals within the book. The rhyme set-up always had my kids guessing what the next animal would be (some obvious, some not so much).

The illustrations within A Dog is a Dog are colourful and fun and I especially loved the reveal page with the animal zipping out of a costume. My 4 and 7 year old loved that page too.

You can add A Dog is a Dog to your personal library by visiting your local book store or visiting Raincoast Books. Visit our Kid’s Books section for other great book recommendations. What are you reading with your kids?

I have to thank Crystal at Raincoast Books for my review copy.
