8 Fun Turkey Crafts for Kids

If you have kids that are looking forward to Thanksgiving this year, then it is time to introduce them to some of these creative turkey crafts for kids. They will love creating all kinds of fun crafts they can display on Thanksgiving day.

Turkey Crafts for Kids

It is the perfect time to work on turkey crafts with the kids, not only is Thanksgiving on the way but if they are lucky they will be able to spot them in the fields while driving in the car. My kids love pointing them out and then pretending to be a turkey. 

I have created a list of fun turkey crafts for kids that can be adapted for your preschoolers to do, but that are also perfect for your older kids as well. 

Before you get started it is always a good idea to have a well-stocked closet of supplies. That way you and the kids can craft whenever you are in the mood

I recommend having:

Leaf  Turkey

Supplies Needed:

  • White cardstock
  • Markers
  • Leaves
  • Turkey body template

To make this project

  • First, you will want to go on a leaf hunt outside. Find big colorful ones as well as smaller ones. Then you will want to cut out a turkey body and color or paint it orange. 
  • Once dry, add eyes, a beak and other features of a turkey. 
  • Lay your turkey body on a piece of cardstock, but don’t glue it yet. 
  • Then take your feathers and place them around the body of the turkey gluing them down.
  • After these leaf “feathers” are all glued, then glue the body of the turkey down. 
  • Now you have an adorable turkey created from nature. 

T “Turkey” Craft

Supplies Needed:

  • Construction paper
  • White cardstock 
  • Feathers

This turkey craft for kids is perfect for preschoolers or toddlers who are learning their letters. 

To make this project:

  • First, you will want to cut out a T in brown construction paper. 
  • Then you will glue this to a white piece of cardstock. Next cut out eyes and a beak and glue them on to your T at the top in the middle. 
  • Next, take your feathers and glue them on the top of your T. 
  • You know have a perfect T Turkey to help you remember your letter T. 

Paper Plate Turkey

Supplies Needed:

To make this project:

  • Before you begin, you will want to prep your area. Lay newspaper down on your work surface to protect it as well as cut your sponge into 4 equal pieces. 
  • Once this is prepped you will cut your paper plate in half. 
  • Then taking your sponge you will sponge paint the paper plate with fall colors: red, orange, green, yellow, brown etc. Use one sponge piece per color. Just dip the sponge into the paint and then sponge around the paper plate. 
  • Let this dry when you have finished sponge painting. 
  • Next, take your brown felt and cut out the body of a turkey. 
  • Cut out a small yellow triangle for teh beak and a red gobbler. 
  • Glue these pieces onto your turkey body. 
  • Next, attach the eyes. 
  • Once the paper plate is dry, go ahead and glue on the turkey body. 
  • Now you have created the perfect turkey craft to display for the holidays. 

Turkey Bookmark

Supplies Needed:

Kids love to make their own bookmarks, so why not let them create their own turkey bookmark. 

To make this project: 

  • First, you will paint your bottlecap brown and set aside. 
  • Then take your popsicle stick and glue your feathers in a half-circle at the top. 
  • Once the bottlecap is dry, you will want to glue it with a hot glue gun on top of the feathers to create your turkey with his feathers. *Moms and dads will need to help with this part. 
  • Next, attach your googly eyes and add a beak. 
  • You now have a turkey bookmark that you can enjoy forever. 

Thankful Turkeys

Supplies Needed:

This time of year it is the perfect time to teach your kids all about gratitude. These gratitude turkeys are the perfect way to do that. 

To make this project:

  • First, you will want to cut out a brown turkey body out of construction paper. 
  • Make a beak and feet and attach them. 
  • Glue on the eyes. 
  • Next cut out several big feathers for your turkey. 
  • After the feathers are cut, have your child write, or help them to write 1 thing they are thankful for on each feather. 
  • Once all the feathers have a thankful idea they can attach them with glue to the turkey. 
  • Now they will have a thankful turkey to remind them of all the things they are thankful for. 

Turkey Paperbag Puppet

Supplies Needed:

Kids love using their imagination, so what better way to do that then creating their very own turkey paper bag puppet. This is the perfect turkey craft for kids because it encourages them to use their imagination well after their craft is complete. 

To make this project:

  • First, you will want to gather all your supplies.
  • Next, cut out your feathers out of construction paper. Encourage your child to use any color that they want. 
  • Have them then cut out the beak. 
  • Next, they will begin gluing on the turkey parts. Have them start with the eyes. Have them glue them to the bottom of the bag (that it normally stands up on). 
  • They then can attach the beak to the same area. You want to make sure they will still be able to open the bag and move the flap up and down. 
  • The final step is to attach all the feathers to the backside of the bag. 
  • Now have the perfect turkey puppet for their next play. 

Turkey Pastel

Supplies Needed:

This turkey chalk pastel craft is fun for older and younger kids. 

To make this project:

  • To begin you will want to cut out a turkey body out of brown construction paper. 
  • Trace your turkey body on the black paper, then remove and set aside.
  • Next, take your green, orange, and red pastels and make “feathers around the turkey body. 
  • Once complete, take a tissue and smooth out the pastel lines. 
  • When your turkey feathers are how you want them, glue your turkey body back to where you traced it. 
  • Next, attach your turkey eyes and beak. 

Turkey Handprint

Supplies Needed:

  • Red, yellow, orange paint
  • Cardstock
  • Black marker
  • Brown construction paper

It is not a true kid craft if you don’t have a fun handprint project for the kids to make. This one will help you remember those cute little handprints for years to come. 

To make this project:

  • To begin start by cutting out your brown turkey body.
  • Once cut out, go ahead and set aside. 
  • Next, paint your child’s hand with red, and place it on a white piece of paper. Set aside. 
  • Repeat this with orange and yellow. 
  • Let these dry. 
  • While drying, take your black marker and add eyes to your turkey body as well as a beak. 
  • After the handprints are dry, cut out.
  • Then attach your handprint feathers to the back of the turkey. 
  • Now glue them all to the piece of white cardstock.
  • Don’t forget to add the date to it so you can always remember how old your child was when they created it!

These fun turkey crafts for kids will inspire so much creativity in your children. Not only that, but it is a great way for you and your kids to bond with each other!
