4th of July crafts for toddlers

When you think about 4^th of July crafts for toddlers you need to remember they won’t be perfect pieces of art.

Age appropriate crafts should have a sensory and creative intention for toddlers.

Remember what they see, smell, and touch are the ways in which toddlers learn about the world around them.

Here are some toddler craft ideas which will stimulate their senses.

4^th of July Sidewalk Flag

Sidewalk chalk is a great way for toddlers to practice their gross and fine-motor skills. You can show them a picture of a flag and ask them:

What colors do we need?
Do you see any shapes?
What is big and what is small?

Then, with the help of an adult, draw out a flag with your toddler! They will be so proud to show neighbors and family their American flag they drew.

4^th of July foam frame

A 4^th of July foam frame is an easy glue and press craft for toddlers.

Just get a foam frame (available at dollar stores or art stores). A red, white or blue frame is best.

Then, get foam stars (again, available at any store which sells craft supplies).

After you have gathered your supplies, have your toddler glue the stars on to the foam frame.

Some foam shapes have adhesive backing so you might not even need the glue for this activity!

Kids will have a blast sticking stars to their frames.

4^th of July sensory bin

OK not so much of a craft as a toddler activity but creating a 4^th of July sensory bin for toddlers can be a great way to keep them busy.

Take a bag of rice (a white rice works best). Then, divide it into thirds. The first third you will want to keep white.

The second pile, you will want to put in a bowl and add a couple of drops of natural red food coloring. Mix around to coat. Then, let it dry.

The last pile, you will put in a bowl and add blue food coloring; mixing to coat. Then, allow to dry.

When the red and blue rice are dry (allow it to dry fully so it won’t transfer the color onto little toddler fingers) combine with the white rice into a bin. Add in measuring cups or clean plastic cups for scooping. Then, invite your toddler to come play. Supervise of course, to ensure they don’t try eating any of the uncooked rice.

TIP: cover with an air-tight top and this sensory bin can be reused over and over.

Easy 4th of July crafts for kids

Easy Kids Craft Ideas for the 4^th of July

Construction paper crown (red, white, blue)

Take red, white, or blue construction paper. Cut a piece of paper long enough to fit around your head. Cut “peaks” with scissors for the top of the crown. Staple ends together. Decorate as you wish.

Beaded necklace, bracelet, or friendship pin

Take red, blue, white beads and bead them together on a string to the size you require.

Patriotic windcatcher

Take a paper towel roll or toilet paper roll and glue strips of red, white, and blue tissue paper to it. On the other end, punch two holes in the top and thread string through it. Tie to knot. Hang from trees to blow in the wind.

Paper plate wreath (put on your windows or your doors!)

Cut the middle of a paper plate out. Then decorate the “wreath” with red, white, and blue shapes.

Fireworks painting (who can draw the best fireworks?)

Go ahead and grab some paper and paint and paint what fireworks look like to you.

Parade wands

Wand kits are available at craft stores. Usually consist of a star foam shape, ribbon, and firm straw or you can grab your own supplies and make your own!

Tie-dye t-shirt (red, white, and blue of course)

You can tie-dye a t-shirt using fabric color. Be sure you have adult supervision when tie-dying.

Suncatchers

Make a border with a solid color. Inside, glue or tape different colors of tissue paper.

Paper lanterns

Measure one inch from the top of the construction paper and cut down to one inch from the bottom. Staple the top and bottom ends together to make a paper lantern.

Confetti poppers

Try your hand at making your very own confetti poppers or pick up a kit from your local craft store.

Paper plate shaker for parades

Grab some paper plates and decorate the outside. Then grab some dried beans and place them between the two plates. Tape the plates together so none of the beans can escape, and then you have made your very own noisemaker!

Red, white, and blue slime

Grab your favorite slime recipe, and then color it red, white, and blue for hours of fun.

Be sure you store it in an airtight container for lots of use!

Paper chain

Cut strips of construction paper. Link them together using glue or a stapler.

Pinwheels

Cut construction paper into a square. Bend in two opposite corners and fasten with glue or tape. Attach to a straw.
