I remember when grocery store shopping was more about getting in and out, making it as quick and painless as possible but after a recent visit to the reopening of Sobeys’ Laird store I’ve discovered the joy of shopping.

According to Eat Right Ontario we should be spending most of our time in the outside aisles.

Shop the outer aisles at the grocery store. Spend most of your time in the produce, bread, milk and meat sections of the store, where you will find a variety of fresh foods recommended in Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide.

The layout of the Sobeys Laird store makes this easy. It’s like shopping in a market with fresh produce displayed in open stalls. I especially like the number of local and organic produce sold in Sobeys stores.

Sobeys Contest1

I love the fresh made sushi. I have a sushi bar in my local Sobeys though not as big as the one in the Laird location and it comes in handy for a quick bite to go. The extensive cheese selection is great whether you’re thinking of cooking or entertaining. The Laird location has a cheese ambassador to0 who helps customers discover new blends and there’s even a cheese sample station. I certainly hope this appears in my store soon.

Sobeys is turning grocery store shopping into an enjoyable experience again. I’ve seen some of these changes happening within my local shop and hopefully they’ll implement them in other stores.

  1. Oh man I miss have a Sobey’s close to home. I use to go there everyday but since we moved to small town in the country our closes food store is CO-OP & it is not Sobey’s

  2. I sometimes have to go after work, which I hate, but the stores here tend to run out of their really good deals too early and if I don’t go on the night the flyer is out, I don’t get much of a chance at them. Sometimes I get lucky right at store open on Saturday morning so I will do that too a lot.

  3. We don’t have a normal day, we only have one vehicle so it depends on my husband work schedule which changes week to week.

  4. I do my grocery shopping when ever I can, sometimes it’s on the weekend sometimes it’s during the week..I don’t have a specific day that I go

  5. I try to be organized but usually find myself rushing to the grocery store several times a week to pick up what I forgot.
    No regular time though

  6. Usually every 2 weeks …..any afternoon usually after 3. Milk and fresh produce picked up during the 2 week period as needed (like this afternoon after work when I’ll shop for milk, grapes and bananas)

  7. I usually go Saturday evening when it’s not too busy. In the summer I go to the farmers market Saturday morning and then pick up and items I cant find at the market one evening during the week.

  8. Usually on Tuesdays but I usually head to the store nearly everyday to get fresh foods and check the clearance bins

  9. whenever I’m near a grocery store — it’s easier to just grab the fresh stuff when I’m already out and about — but tip wise I would NEVER go to a Costco on the weekend – I have but it’s not fun at all whatsoever around here — maybe elsewhere but not here!

  10. We like to shop early Monday morning or after 6 pm on Friday so its not that crowded in the store. We love Sobeys!

  11. I love to shop fresh and home make about 90% of what my family of 6 consume. For me it is 3 or 4 times a week.

  12. I try and shop on Fridays. Took my mom to the Sobeys at Lairds. Wow, nice store. We got a coffee and a pastry. Lovely!!

  13. I go bright and early on Saturday morning. I aim for when the store opens. That way I am not fighting crowds, standing in a long line up and using lots of coupons is not an issue

  14. I am entering your giveaway.
It would be great to win a $50 Sobeys gift card.
In response to your question of When do you normally do your grocery shopping?
I usually go grocery shopping on Saturday.
Thank you for having this giveaway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. On Sundays I take my son for his school lunches and after school snacks. I grab fresh produce and meats as needed through the week.

  16. Usually either after work to pick things up during the week for dinner – or early morning saturday or sunday

  17. I usually go in either early in the morning during the week or super late at night at our 24 hr Sobeys…the aisles are so empty!

  18. I don’t have a “regular” time…I pick up milk and fresh fruits/veggies and anything else we might need weekly, and I do a big shop every second week normally either Sunday night or Monday morning, but it depends on the week and what we have going on.
