It’s unavoidable. When the fluctuating weather hits, the kids get sick. I try to give their immunity a boost, and we have been fortunate to have staved off many cold and flu attacks, but when one of my kids goes down, it’s hard on everyone. When the inevitable strikes, the best solution a mom can offer is love.
6 Ways to Treat a Child’s Cold
Keep Them Hydrated
. It’s hard getting my kids to drink water on regular days let alone when they’re sick. We have pylon mug from a trip to Cars Land in California and it’s used especially for the sickle in the house. Having a special mug makes the task of drinking more of a treat.
Keep Them Cool. We’ve all been sick. We know that having no control over how you feel can be frustrating. Kids are no different. They cold and need more blankets. They want a warm drink, no a cold drink, no a warm drink. They’re too hot from all the blankets. The cat breathing beside them is SO loud that they can’t sleep. Having touchy kids means you want to disturb them as little as possible. The Braun ThermoScan Ear Thermometer is best in class to provide your family with comfort and accuracy needed to ensure a quick recovery from cold and flu.
Keep Them Entertained. Not all cold bugs will knock your kids out. A sick day is the perfect time to spend a little one-on-one time together. Try snuggling together under a blanket and enjoy a good story. Don’t forget the funny voices. If it’s an older child home, try watching a few of these YouTube channels together.
Keep Them Comfortable. Not being able to see your friends at school or play in the fresh snow in the backyard can make being sick even harder. Why not create a little cushion cocoon and build a pillow fort for your little sick one.
Keep Them Sleeping. I remind my kids often that sleep is the best medicine when you’re not well. Rest enables your body’s immune system to do its thing. The Vicks Sweet Dreams Cool Mist Humidifier releases a cool mist in your child’s room or add a Vicks VapoPads Scent pads for soothing vapours. Lull kids to sleep under a Starry Night, Safari, or Sea projected on the ceiling from the independently controlled projector.
Keep Them Fed. Maybe it’s just the hot liquid or the easy broth but many believe chicken noodle soup can be more beneficial to treating a cold than over the counter medication. Whether you believe that to be true or not, a homemade bowl over lunch couldn’t do any harm. Canadian Living has a tasty recipe for Chicken Noodle Soup you can make in your slow cooker.
Air quality in your home can also help but while two-thirds of Canadians say they’re very concerned about air quality and its effect on their health, 60% are not doing anything to improve the air quality in their homes. This is a problem. Air pollution in our homes can be up to 2 to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air and Canadians spend 20 hours per day indoors. The Honeywell True HEPA Air Purifier is a great option and is the #1 recommended brand by doctors. It captures up to 99.97% of microscopic allergens as small as 0.3 microns from the air, and circulates and cleans the air in a room, up to 5 times an hour.
