S'Match: A New Spin on a Memory Game from Thinkfun

If you have young kids you're probably familiar with the card game concentration; kids try to make matches from cards turned face down.
With the game
S'Match,
Thinkfun adds a new spin on this old family favourite, literally, by adding a spinner. Children still need to find matches from face down picture cards, but they press down on the spinner before their turn to find out exactly what they are suppose to match: colours, numbers or categories (intruments, vehicals, animals).
S'Match consists of 30 picture cards and each card has a specific colour, image and number of images. For example, one card would have one purple cat, while another card would have two blue airplanes.
Starting with all 30 cards face down, like a standard concentration game, each child takes a turn with the spinner. Once they know what they need to find a match of, they choose their two cards. If they match according to the spinner they keep the pair and go again. If it's not a match, the cards are turned back over for the next player. Each player gets to have a spin before their turn which means each player could be trying to find a different match.

My son loved
S'Match; he loved the spinner. This game is great for building a child's memorization skills but also matching and sorting. Having the spinner and changing the dynamics of each player's turn kept the game exciting. The game is designed for kids four and up, but my almost three-year old enjoyed playing it also. The game is great fun to play with multiple players, but a child can also play the game on their own.
The only thing I miss with this game is the handy storage bag I've grown accustomed to having with all of
Thinkfun's great games.
Now you can share some
S'Match fun with the kids in your house. The generous folks at
Thinkfun are offering two of our
Everything Mom readers their own copy of
S'Match. To enter just
hop over to Thinkfun's website and checkout their great library of games. Then come back and leave a comment on another game you think your kids would enjoy. Contest closes December 8/09 and is open to both Canada and the United States.
