DS Games for Girls: My Games

o-gamesI'll come right out and admit it, we are a gaming family. On Friday nights you'll find us winging our Wii-mote and the DS is an essential when traveling with the kids. My seven-year old daughter likes to play racing and blasting games, but she also likes more 'girly' adventures too. O-GAMES has come out with four new DS games just for girls and they sent copies along for us, I mean my daughter, to try out.

makeupcaseMY MAKE-UP DS GAME FOR GIRLS
With your virtual character, which you create and customize, you can give yourself a spa treatment, a make-up makeover or try your hand at a little face painting. You can choose different face masks, make-up brush sizes and make-up colours. When you're done your character's makeover, check your message for make-over request from your virtual friends.

I find the make-up game a lot of work, but than I'm not a young girl with a desire to wear make-up. My daughter on the other hand loves this game. She loves the idea of putting on make-up but since she's not allowed to wear it herself, this game gives her a chance to use it and create fun looks. She likes using the face paint and creating animal faces and also getting makeover request messages.

dressupcaseMY DRESS-UP DS GAME FOR GIRLS
Have a budding fashion designer in your house? With My Dress-Up, you can create a customized look with over 600 items, including shirts, shoes, hats, jewelry and more. Plus you can customize your fabrics by choosing a pattern and colour or combination of colours. When your look is complete, check it out on the runway and save it to your wardrobe, make changes or start all over again. Then check your messages for design requests from your virtual friends.

I know I'm not the target, but I had fun creating outfits. It was so easy to do. My daughter enjoyed creating outfits based on her virtual friends' needs, though she felt there were a lot of themed outfit requests and was getting tired of producing these (lots of Halloween costume requests). She also found creating her own outfits a lot of work; she felt a little overwhelmed by all the choices.

friendscaseMY FRIENDS DS GAME FOR GIRLS
In this virtual world you create friends to play with. You can customize the look and outfit for each friend and yourself. Then you're off to explore your neighbourhood. As you walk around you discover gifts and treats to add to your collection and share with your friends. Playing games unlocks new areas in the neighbourhood and new games.

friendsscreensThe game uses two screens: the bottom screen is a close-up of your character and what's near them, the top screen is a bird's eye view of the neighbourhood you're in and where surprises, friends and the game portal are. I found using the two screens took some adjusting, especially when playing tag games. My daughter loved this game, actually I think this was her favourite out of all four. She loved creating different friends, sharing gifts and playing games with them. She would create virtual versions of her real friends and would pretend she was meeting them or playing with them.

diarycaseMY SECRET DIARY DS GAME FOR GIRLS
Store important dates and special thoughts in this electronic diary, plus keep track of all your friends in an address book. You can write short notes and include picture icons to remember special events now or in the future. When you've finished recording your thoughts, try some of the fun games like quizzes and fortune cookies.

The space for recording thoughts or details in the calendar is very limiting; it's meant for simple one line notes: today was a great day or I'm sad it's Monday, but maybe that's all the space young kids need. My daughter enjoyed this. She typed in a few diary entries, but her favourite part was the games. She liked the whole fortune tellling games. The diary aspect might appeal to a slightly older girl.

All the My Games have a chat feature that enables you to chat with your friends within range (if they have the My Games also). My daughter had a great time using all four games. I think she liked playing games that were just for her.

GIVEAWAY!

Have a DS gaming girl in your house or know of one? Everything Mom has two (2) My Games gift packs to giveaway, consisting of one (1) of each of the four (4) My Game DS games (My Make-Up, My Dress-Up, My Friends, My Secret Diary).

I have 3 daughters. The oldest is 6 and is a big gamer too! (DS by day, Wii by night - until bedtime). Her Christmas wish list is a hybrid of the young child she still is (Barbies) and the teen she wants to be (iPod). Her list is shorter this year than past years and does include MORE games. The only other item on her list (which makes me laugh HARD) is a pogo stick. Wonder if I can find one of those things. Think I asked for one when I was her age! (gotta go call my mom)

My daughter's wish list has been made really easy for me this year. I took pictures on my smartphone when ever we would come across an item she "had to have". This has helped me to remember the items and when grandparents ask for a suggestion, it has been as easy as sending out an email with said picture(s) attached. A few of her items are:
-a fur real friend puppy
-Barbie Royal Horse and Carriage
-LIV doll
-Moxie doll
-and of course a pair of Tickle Me Elmo Hands.

Thanks for the great contest! We bought her a DS for Christmas and have been scouting around for age and content appropriate games. These look like they fit the bill.

She has also recently added bendaroos, clothes and a make up kit to the list.

We have 2 sons... (2.5 years and 7 mos). My eldest son told me that he wanted to get Nana & Papa (maternal grandparents) a goat for Christmas - for the Children in Africa! I was a bit taken back but I think he overheard Nana & Papa talking about giving each other some type of Animal. He makes me so proud! He also has added to his wishlist a sled & wagon for him & his brother and some Shake & Go Disney Cars.
We have friends who have a 'gaming' daughter who would love these games. We would also choose donate them to the Christmas Hamper we are taking part in through our Church. Thanks for this opportunity to share your DS games.

Just a comment about the face painting. Be careful about the sanitation. Here in the USA we are having a problem with sickness. I have gotten a bug twice in 4 months! I have not seen this kit, but if it comes with one brush, you might want to set it aside. Try cotton swabs. They are much harder to paint with, but safer. Once you touch the swab to their skin, do not put it back into your paint, just throw it away. Also, add a few drops of vinegar to your dipping water. It helps with germs :-)

I have an article on face painting tips http://www.thefacepainter.info/facepainters.html
