Rechargeable battery case: mophie juice pack air for iPhone 3G & 3GS

mophielogoI love my iPhone; I use it for everything from email correspondence, taking pictures, facebook updates, scheduling my day, playing games, editing videos, tweeting...the list goes on and on. But along with using my iPhone for everything, my battery life depletes pretty quickly.

I recently reviewed on Everything Mom the mophie ( @mophielovesyou) USB chargers with my iPhone so I asked if I could try out their mophie juice pack air, a rechargeable battery case for iPhone 3G & 3GS. When it arrived, my new cherry red mophie juice pack air, I was giddy with excitement. I love the box it comes in; the front flips open so you can see the actual case without having to pull it out of the sealed box.

casepicThe mophie juice pack air comes in white, black, and purple, but I must admit the new cherry red colour is my favourite. The case itself is hard and comes in two pieces (you slide your phone into the bottom and then slide the top on). I love the soft, non-slippery feel and it doesn't seem to retain fingerprints which is great because I seem to be sharing my iPhone a lot with 3 kids.

The battery adds some thickness and weight to the iPhone but that seems unnoticeable after awhile.

I was pleased to find out the battery was already charged so I could use it right away, but that first charge didn't seem to last very long. After I let my battery and iPhone run down into the red, I charged them up completly and my second run with the battery was a whole different story. I charged my iPhone and mophie juice pack air two days ago and I'm still going strong. I was out this morning when my iPhone battery fell in the red. In the past I would have had to turn it off, but with a flick of a switch on my mophie juice pack air I'm still using my iPhone.

When your iPhone is attached to the mophie juice pack air, you can choose to use your iPhone's battery (juice pack air is in stand-by mode) or use the juice pack air battery. There's a switch on the bottom of the phone. This means you only use your extra battery when you need it. Using the supplied USB cable, you can also charge your iPhone and battery together (or you can charge them separately).

juicepackcoloursYou can gauge the amount of juice left in your juice pack air with a simple press of a button. Four LED lights on the back of the case light-up briefly (the number of lights lit indicates how much power you have left in your battery). The cut-outs in the mophie juice pack air for all the buttons (like power, ringer, volume, and camera) don't interfere with the button use at all, even the camera. And the case is tough; I dropped mine in the parking lot recently and not a scratch.

There are really only two things I'm not keen on with my mophie juice pack air : 1) the connection for the mophie juice pack air is different than other devices I connect with a USB which means another cable in the office and 2) when you do need to remove your iPhone from the case you end up pressing the volume buttons on the side (this seems to be the only way I can slide my iPhone out). But really, for all the extra battery life I get, these are minor issues.

The mophie juice pack air retails for about $80.00 US so it's not cheap, but if you are a regular iPhone user, this is a must-have accessory. And if you have an iPod Touch, mophie has a juice pack for you too.

The juice pack air™ is a rechargeable external battery concealed inside of a protective form-fitting
case for the i Phone 3G & i Phone 3GS. It offers you the full protection of a hard-shell case while providing
virtually twice the battery life of the i Phone alone; all in an ultra-thin, light-weight, low-profile design.

That looks like a really nice case. Does the paint wear off pretty easily? I have a case pretty similar to that one and the paint on the back is rubbing off.
