Easy home organization with the Brother P-Touch PC Labeller

brotherlogoWhether you run a home office or just your own home, a personal labeller can be a handy tool. So as part of getting our house organized, we tried the new Brother P-Touch PC Connectable labeller (PT-1230PC $49.99 US).

Even though the labeller attaches to your computer (USB cable is provided) there is no software to install. This makes it easy to start using the labeller right away, plus you don’t have to worry about managing another piece of software.

The P-Touch 1230PC comes with a sample tape so you can start labelling right out of the box. The side of the labeller just swings open and the tape slides in. No screwdriver required. When the labeller is connected to your PC, the editing window opens, giving you lots of options.

And since the label tape is on a spool, there’s no limit to how long your labels can be. Plus there’s a built in cutter. Just press a button.

When I opened the box I pulled out the instruction sheet with the intention of reading it, but creating a label was so easy. Even my seven year old daughter could create labels, on her own, for her school books. We created labels for books, for our DVD library binders, for our home account files, for the kid’s cubbies, for envelops. Well, you get the idea. And if you create a style you like, you can save it to call up later and reprint it or edit it.

Depending on your labelling needs, you can purchase a variety of tapes to feed into your labeller too; different tape colours, different type colours, there’s fabric tape and acid free tape for photographs. The label cartridges are easy to switch. Pop in a yellow label with blue type cartridge for your home finance files then easily replace it with a clear label with black type cartridge for your spice jars.

There’s really only one thing I was a little disappointed about, that the labeller couldn’t be powered by the computer through the USB connection. It requires 6AA batteries (included) or you can use an AC adaptor (which isn’t included).
