Wikipedia describes Polygamy as - a form of marriage in which a person has more than one spouse at the same time, as opposed to Monogamy in which a person has only one spouse at a time. When a man has more than one wife, the relationship is called Polygyny and when a woman has more than one husband, it is called Polyandry. 
If a marriage includes multiple husbands and wives, it can be called Group Marriage.
In Canada all provinces adhere to the federal Criminal Code of Canada which makes polygamy an offense and punishable by up to five years in prison.
No I wasnʼt bored and reading the dictionary, I watched a couple episodes of TLCʼs new show Sister Wives. Quite frankly a couple is about all I can handle. I donʼt watch TLC that much anymore. After the whole My Monkey Baby fiasco I have lost faith in the Learning part of The Learning Chanel. When I saw the trailers for this one I was curious, but given my feelings on the subject I knew I would not be a fan. I am of the belief that Polygamy is just a fancy word for wanting to be a dirty penis...Have your cake and eat it too sort of thing.
Kody (heʼs the dirty penis) has three wives Marie, Janella, Christine and 13 children with them. He is now courting a fourth wife Robyn, who already has three kids (you do the math). One of his wives was pregnant, just had a baby girl on the last episode and on his way out the door to the hospital he stuck his tongue down his girlfriends throat and said goodbye...Nice!
The whole premiss of the show is to give us an inside look at their day-to-day lives and how they cope in their situation. Quite frankly the show is dull as hell and filled with, “Oh my poor jealousy issues” and “where do I fit in”.
TLC has done it once again and found a herd of people willing tell it all on TV. Will this show gives us a better understanding of polygamy? Will it allow us to appreciate the culture? No, not at all. So far it is showing a man jumping from wife to wife to make sure her feelings are ok and she still likes him, all the while finding another, who of course is younger and prettier.
On Sister Wives they call Kody “The Husband”, I wonder what TLC would call it if the roles were reversed. In the dictionary a woman who has multiple husbands is called polyandrous. In society they call her a Slut...can you smell the double standard.
Monogamy Martini
1 ounce Vodka
1 ounce French Kiss Vanilla Liqueur
3 ounces Unsweetened Apple Cider
1 tsp Brown Sugar
cinnamon sugar
Muddle brown sugar with Vodka & Vanilla liq...add to shaker full of ice with apple cider. Rim large glass with cinnamon sugar, fill with ice and serve...Garnish with an apple wedge...Tastes just like an apple crisp. You can also warm ingredients to serve as a hot totty!!
