Dove Movement for Self-Esteem

A few weeks ago, I was invited by Dove to take part in a conversation about self-esteem at the (G(irls) 20 Summit in Toronto, ON.

OneGirlCanDove hosted One Girl Can: A Discussion on Mentorship where they launched the Dove Movement for Self-Esteem, an initiative to support positive self-esteem in girls and women so they can reach their full personal potential.

During the conversation, we heard from 21 (18-20 year old) girls from across the world, Jess Weiner, Jennifer Hollett and Sharon MacLeod from Dove.

I was incredibly moved by these wise-beyond-their-years delegates sharing their advice to their 13 year-old selves. Although I am hearing impaired and missed some of their words, reading them from other women who were in attendance at the event landed right in my heart. I had the opportunity to have a conversation with Jess Weiner who is a Self-Esteem expert. And although the day was surrounded with ideas about self-esteem in young girls, I guided my questions for Jess about Self-Esteem in Moms and how it affects our children.

I have put together a video highlighting my experience of the event. I know that at +9 mins, it is fairly long, but there are many wonderful nuggets of inspiration. I encourage you to take a boo: (if the video is not loading, hop on over to YouTube to watch there...)

Yes, after the event, feeling shaky about my own self-esteem and how it affects my children, I tweeted out:

Self-Esteem

And almost everyone replied with a resounding YES, ME!

So we are doing something about it.

We are starting Mom Esteem, a program on EM that will offer tools and guidance to increase our own self-esteem so that we can model positive self-confidence for our children.

I have signed the Dove Movement for Self-Esteem and I encourage you to do the same. By joining the movement, you will receive tools to mentor and inspire the girls and women in your life to reach their full personal potential.
