Teaching our kids to read must be one of those big issues that weigh on the mind of most parents. I know it has for me. Although there are all sorts of opinions, programs, and tools to help kids with their reading, it should be based around the love of books.

Each of my three kids has their own subjects of interest but one common theme that appeals to all of them is Star Wars. If you have a budding Jedi in your home, checkout DK Canada’s library of books, from leveled readers to visual dictionaries and more.

Encouraging your child to read with some of the Star Wars books from DK Canada, can also benefit other kids in schools that are in need. Simply purchase your DK Star Wars books at Chapters and Indigo stores across Canada during the May the 4th Be With You weekend (May 4, 5, and 6, 2012) and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Indigo’s Love of Reading program. This program has already raised over $10 million dollars for Canadian schools in need. As part of the celebration, select Chapters stores will be hosting May the 4th Be With You events. Check DK Canada’s event page for details. Amazing to think that buying a book for your child, neice, or grandson could benefit so many, especially if we all support the initiative.

For added fun, DK Canada is also giving away a DK Star Wars Library (approximate value $200 Cdn). To enter, simply submit a photo of your Star Wars fan enjoying a DK Star Wars book. For more details on how to submit your entry (deadline is May 31, 2012), visit DK Canada’s May the 4th Be With You page.

So put those lightsabers away, grab some Wookie Water and start building your child’s love of reading with DK Canada’s Star Wars books.

May the 4th Be With You.
