Tassimo Hot Beverage System: Tassimo Review

tassimo_headerlogoCoffee is big in our house, well, it's big for my husband. He grinds his beans. He steams his milk. He evan debated getting his own roaster. So when Tassimo Canada sent me one of their machines I was curious how my coffe loving, no make that coffee snob husband would react.

Before even opening the box, I was impressed to see that Tassimo is manufactured by Bosch, a high-end appliance manufacturer. This raised my impression of the machine right away. The set-up was easy and pretty quick, even with having to run water through the machine and it's water filtration system. In less than thirty-minutes I was able to use the machine.

cappuccinoThe Tassimo system enables you to make a fresh brewed Starbucks coffee, a creamy Suchard hot chocolate, or even a chia tea latte, all from the convenience of your own kitchen. Just select the T Disc variety you want (there are more than 14 different flavours from such brands as Nabob, Tazo, Seattle's Best and more -- though availability may vary by country and store). With the press of a single button, the Tassimo uses a barcode reading system to read what variety you are making and how much water to add. There is the option to add more water to your drink if you so desire.

Each T Disc makes one fresh cup, meaning you can make individual drinks for everyone in the house. When I make my chia tea latte there's no residual taste from the Starbuck's coffee my husband just made. And if you have people over, everyone can get exactly what they want (assuming you have the T Disc's in your pantry). Gone are the days of just offering plain coffee or tea, to everyone.

I love the convenience. I would never make myself a latte at home, but with the Tassimo, just pop the T Discs in and witnin 30-seconds I have one. My coffee drinking husband says the coffee isn't the same quality as his automatic professional system (remember, he's a coffee snob). But even his automatic system takes longer to make a cappuccino. The convenience factor is a big plus. Funny thing, when my husband leaves for work in the morning, he's making a cappuccino from the Tassimo machine in his travel mug.

That's another plus; whether you're using a tea cup, expresso cup or a tall travel mug, the dispensing area can adjust easily to accomodate and I love that. My kids love the hot chocolate.

page171_bosch_silverI did have some concern about the waste caused by all the T Discs. When I asked the company I was told the T Discs as a whole aren't recyclable. That is something they hope to move toward in the future. However, if you remove the foil cover and dump the grounds in with your organics, you can put the plastic container in with your recycling. It's a little work but it's better than adding to land fills.

There's really only one thing about the Tassimo that bugs me and it's not really that big of a deal. The light is kind of loud (I think it must be the relay for the light). When it flashes it makes a loud click or banging sound in the machine, something that caught my attention right away. Over time I seem to have tuned it out.

Overall, I'm really happy with the Tassimo; it's easy and convenient and it produces some very tasty beverages.

The model we have (T45 Suprema) we saw retailing for approximately $159.00 (Cdn.). The T Disc packs sell at various prices depending on what you're buying (from @2.99Cdn. for an 8-pack of Twinnings ro $9.99Cdn. for a 12-pack of Starbucks). You can check online to find the nearest store that sells the variety you want or you can buy them online from Tassimo directly.

I love the lattes and cappucino but if you want to consume a 3gm of fat with 2 of them saturated ...well that will produce a weight gain. I absolutely hate the coffees. I tried starbucks breakfast blend, gevalia morning blend. I absolutely love my keurig b 70. I usually like mild coffee and i love starbucks breakfast blend but not in the tassimo. Putrid strong.

We have Tassimo at the office and I love it. Would love to have one at home though. My favorite is the Chai Latte, my least favorite is the hot chocolate, find it a little watered down tasting

I have to say I love the convenience of the Tassimo too (also received a freebie). But the Chai latte made BOTH me and my sister in law SOOO SICK. Like bowels sick. Not fun. Not sure if the milk packages were off or what. But I definitely won't be purchasing any products with the milk discs. Nothing beats the Tazo Chai anyways...Maybe I'm a chai snob? ha.

Love my Tassimo! We bought one as a present for ourselves when my 3 year old was born. Love the new Chai T-discs, so very yummy.
