I’m delinquent at reviews. Thank goodness, we now have a rock star review blogger, Carrie Anne who gives her honest, thorough reviews – in a timely fashion to boot.
But in this case, I think it actually helped me give a full take on the product. Philips Sonicare sent us the electric toothbrush for kids a long time ago – too long to admit. We had the benefit of time on our side to see if it would stick, if it would really work. Did the novelty wear off? Not a chance, they are still brushing.
Sure enough, at our last dentist appointment, both kids made the cavity free club and you can imagine their excitement! I have to say, I think Sonicare for Kids helped them make that journey to the infamous club.
They like brushing. I’ll say that again – they LIKE brushing. Every day. Without hassle. I know, I can’t get over it either.
If I were the reader, looking for a review on a toothbrush for kids, I’d be sold with the simple fact that they WANT to brush. However, I had some concerns.
I was worried about their gums. And so I should be. When they first tried the toothbrush, they went to town. The little vibrating machine in their hand got them just a little too excited (ummm…. nevermind….). Anyway, where was I?
Certainly, we needed to teach them how to properly use their new toy, I mean toothbrush. When I asked our dentist about the toothbrush, he said it was wonderful as long as they held it still and let the brush do its job all by itself. (No brushing side to side, up and down etc…) Too much pressure would be too much for their little gums to take.
Sonicare thought about that ahead of time. They have two settings, one for the younger gums and one for the older ones. My 5 YO uses the lower setting and my 7 YO uses the higher setting. Each electric toothbrush comes with (2) toothbrushes, one a bit smaller for the 4-7 YOs.
Our kids caught on to the settings and the technique in no time. They think it is magical that the toothbrush does all the work for them.
And so do I.
Now if I could just find some floss with half as much magic.

My kids love their vibrating toothbrushes too, though like you I have to watch the kids. The first few times my two youngest just hold them in their mouth (uh, they're to brush your teeth with guys). I think now I get more real cleaning time from them.
The kids brush takes this wonderful toothbrush down to the kids level. The sound that comes from the device is nowhere as loud as it is on the adult brush so I think it probably helps. The ramp up speed is great for them to get used to this new way of brushing. And the idea of knowing when to switch to another side of your teeth and when it is over is so helpful.
The only complaint is the size of the handle....I always though it is a little bit big for the little hand of a 4 year old.
Nonetheless, it does an excellent job. Bravo Sonicare. It's the talk of the household. ;-)>
