Like it or not, Fall is here and that means we’ll be spending more time inside the house. Don’t get me wrong, I actually like Fall, but the air inside the house always seems a little stale after a summer full of outside fun.
With three kids and four cats, I’ve been known to use the occasional air freshener, though I’ve never been much of a fan of those ongoing air fresheners, the ones that continuously freshen your room. Usually I find them too strong with a sickeningly sweet perfume aroma that hangs heavy in the air.
Recently I had a chance to try the new Febreze Home Collection line. The Home Collection is designed to give you the air freshness you expect from Febreze with a stylish design.
Febreze Flameless Luminaire

The first product I tried was the Febreze Flameless Luminaire, a battery operated decorative lamp with a scented shade that provides continuous Febreze freshness. I loved the look with the wooden base and square shade. And anyone who came into the room thought it was an actual candle, the flickering glow is that realistic. The light and scent is active for about four hours and then it turns off automatically, but a light tap on the top of the shade activates it again.
The starter kit comes with two scented shades and the replacement shades (sold in pairs) are designed to fold up flat so they don’t take up any space in your storage closet. Since it runs on batteries I could place the Febreze Flameless Luminaire anywhere. No need to be close to an outlet and no ugly wires or plugs to conceal. Placed in the living room on the piano, the Febreze Flameless Luminaire looked like a wonderful accent piece. You can’t tell that it’s a room freshener. And the aroma filters into the front hall and dining room.
The shades come in a variety of scents and designs and the scent usually last one week before needing to be replaced.
Starter kit: $17.99Cdn (includes 2AA batteries)
Replacement shades (pack of 2): $6.99Cdn
Febreze Sented Reed Diffuser
The second product I tried was the Febreze Sented Reed Diffuser. Reeds placed in the bottle absorb the scented oil and diffuse it into the air. The design of the Febreze Sented Reed Diffuser fit right into our bathroom, like a dried arrangement. I loved that it didn’t take up a plug space too since plugs seem to be in short supply in our bathroom. It didn’t take long before I noticed the scent. I even noticed hints of it in the upstairs hallway.
I’ll admit I was worried the aroma from the diffuser would be strong, since it’s an scented oil, but I was pleasantly surprised. Even my husband enjoyed the bathroom’s new subtle scent. It’s estimated the oil will last for about sixty days, after which you’ll have to buy a new Febreze Sented Reed Diffuser.
Diffuser: $11.99Cdn
Febreze Soy Blend Candle
The last product I tried was the Febreze Soy Blend Candle. I’ll admit right up front, I’m not a big fan of scented candles, but this was Cranberry Holly, part of the holiday collection. I love the idea of seasonal scents. The slow-burning soy wax locks in premium aromatic oils for a full scent experience with each burn and is expected to last 30 to 40 hours.
I thought the wood base added a nice upscale look over the plain glass candles I’ve seen and it can be used as a lid when you’re not burning the candle. Once lit, it didn’t take long for the room to fill with the scent of cranberries. Unlike the other two Febreze products I tried, I found this one over powering to my senses, but then again, I’m not a big candle person and the scent did seem to mellow out a bit after a few burns.
Soy Blend Candle: $11.99Cdn
I love the new look of the Febreze Home Collection. Finally products that add a sense of freshness in my house without looking like air fresheners. I especially love that I can set-up the Febreze Flameless Luminaire and the Febreze Scented Reed Diffuser in any room and not worry about either of them. All the Febreze Home Collection products are available in most grocery stores. I know I’ll be picking up the Diffuser and Luminaire again.
