EASports Active More Workouts

With holiday indulgence behind me, I'm ready to follow through with some of my resolutions, like living healthier. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is to exercise regularly. Yes, I said easiest. Usually fitting exercise into my routine is difficult, that is until I discovered EASports Active Personal Trainer for the Wii gaming system last year. It's the one workout program I've been able to maintain and you can read my review to find out why.

easactive-wiiboxartEven with my love of the EASports Active Personal Trainer program, there were a few things that I felt were missing that would make it superb, specifically abdominal exercises (where I need the most help). I guess I wasn't the only one who felt that way. Just before Christmas EASports introduced a second disc in the EASports Active line called More Workouts. EASports sent me out a copy to try out.

Everything I love about the original EASports Active Personal Trainer program has been maintained in the More Workouts disc: customization, fun workout activities, pre-programmed workouts (based on time and intensity level), fitness progress tracking. You can read my review of the original EASports Active Personal Trainer program to find out more about what I liked.

So what makes the More Workouts disc different?

Tropical environment

I really like the new beach resort environment for the workouts. Some of the activities like water skiing and running on the beach are great. I think I enjoyed running on the beach more than running around a track, even if it is virtual.

Six-week challenge

One of the features I really like about the original EASports Active disc is the 30-day challenge. I like having a pre-set routine to follow. The new disc has a similar program except it runs for 6-weeks. The schedule defaults to 4 days workout/3 days rest but you can adjust that up front based on your routine. I find with the Mon-Tues-Thurs-Fri workout routine (no workout on the weekend) I'm much better at following my routine. And on rest days, if I'm up to it or have time, I can toss in a mini-workout.

Unlike the original disc, More Workouts (if you do the 6-week challenge) provides you with both a warm-up routine as well as a cool-down. This is great because sometimes I would forget and jump right into a workout. The cool-down really helps me to rest and return my heart rate and cuts down on dizziness.

Abdominal workouts

This is a great feature that the original disc is sadly lacking. From push-ups and crunches and everything in between, I'm really feeling these workouts.

Better use of the Wii Fit Board

Both the Personal Trainer and the More Workouts disc are designed to work with or without the Wii Fit Board. I didn't think the board offered much benefit on the original disc, but that isn't the case with the More Workouts program. Water skiing to paddling to boxing and push-ups, I think the Wii Fit Board has been incorporated much better this time around. But you don't need the board to do the workouts; it's just an added option. One benefit to using the board with the 6-week program is you can update your weight at the start of each week of your workout by weighing right on the board versus on a scale and entering it in. I really love this.

New exercises and activities

The Personal Trainer has a lot of great exercises and activities (like roller blading and dancing). It was hard to imagine what More Workouts could include that would be unique and still maintain a fun workout but they did. They've added some really great new workouts using the resistance band, plus some great activities. A few of my favourites are the obstacle course (short spurts consisting of a variety of routines), squash and boxing. I really like the moving targets in boxing; it keeps me moving fast and hitting hard (great if you've had a bad day).

>If you already own the original EASports Active Personal Trainer disc, as I do, the More Workouts enables you to import your profile with one simple click; no need to re-enter anything. The More Workouts doesn't include the resistant band and the leg strap like the original disc does but you can buy this as an accessory kit separately. More Workouts also includes a small nutritional booklet from two of Bob Greene's books. This contains a few nutrition tips as well as some healthy recipes. This booklet along with the More Workouts program helps you to establish a new all-round healthy lifestyle.

I've made it to the halfway point of my six-week workout on the More Workouts ($39.99) disc and I'm loving it. Working from home while taking care of three young kids takes a lot of time but EASports Active More Workouts allows me to add fitness to my routine. And if I'm feeling healthy and happy, everyone in my family will benefit.
