Pumpkins are one of my favorite foods. Anything that goes equally well in pie, cookies, pasta, and risotto can't be anything but great. They are plentiful and cheap this time of the year, plus they are packed with nutrition. This year get out of your pumpkin rut and try a new recipe. You can even make your own pumpkin puree, whip up a homemade pumpkin face mask, or exfoliate with a pumpkin sugar scrub

One thing to know is those giant pumpkins we carve at Halloween are not the pumpkins you want to use in cooking. Find smaller pie pumpkins, or other heirloom varieties that are fleshy and grown for cooking.
