With 3 kids I take a lot of photos, A LOT. My digital camera is almost an extension of my arm. Taking pictures allows me to capture those brief moments of discovery and joy and inspiration and love so I can cherish and remember them when the moment passes. And they always seem to pass so quickly.
But sometimes a picture on its own isn't enough. I think that is why I love scrapbooking; it allows me to add the story. I have one that I keep, chronicling all the celebrations in our family. But it can take a lot of work to print and cut and paste and write and stick to make those pages.
Not so with Memory Maker, digital scrapbook software from Lasting Impressions, which I had the chance to try out.
Memory Mixer allows you as much or as little creative freedom as you want. You can use their Quick Wizard which consists of a number of premade templates, like Boys Birthday or a nature theme and so on. Once you select the theme you just add the photos (and text if you desire) and your done. I used the Birthday Boy template and had my son's album done in less than an hour.
But honestly my favourite part of scrapbooking is the creative aspect; I love designing new pages and layouts to extend the feeling expressed in the photos. Memory Mixer allows you to be in total control of your pages. You can choose from a large number of photo layouts, add a variety of backgrounds, details and embellishments. You can even get creative with titles and text with a huge selection of fonts and colours and sizes.
Unlike a standard scrapbook, you can try a layout and if you don’t like it, move it around on the page, swap photos, change the page position in the book. It’s so flexible.
Once you’re done you can print the pages yourself or send them to Memory Mixer to print. And you don’t have to just do scrapbooks. There are templates for calendars and cards, boxes and stationary. You can even create digital files for CD or movies for the web.
The first time I opened up Memory Mixer I was a little overwhelmed with all the choice but now that I’ve started using it I love it. I actually find I create more scrapbook pages now versus the standard paper way.
The Memory Mixer website is also a great resource. You can buy new backgrounds and embellishments to add to your already large collection but my favourite part is the user gallery. Here you can what other people have created and maybe get a little inspiration. You can also check out the Memory Mixer tutorials to see the software in action.

BTW: The initial link above has "Memory Maker" in the text when I think it should be "Memory Mixer"? Thanks again for the great article!
