When kids pretend to be a superhero flying through the air or a princess having a tea party, they use their body’s muscles and stimulating their brain’s senses. This play lays the groundwork for learning, how the body works, thinking sparked by creativity and imagination.
IKEA knows how important play is. With the help of child experts and children, IKEA immerses itself into a child-like mind to create things that encourage play in the most important playground in the world, your own home.
The IKEA Playreport engaged parents and children from across the world to participate in a conversation around child development and play. Their aim is to increase awareness, start meaningful discussions – and hopefully get parents and children to play more together in the process. Visit the Playreport page on Facebook to participate in conversations around child development and the importance of play.
We also had the chance to try out IKEA’s new iPhone/iPod Touch app LEKAR, inspired by the Playreport (link to blog that talks about this).
Founded in Sweden in 1943, IKEA offers home furnishing and accessories of good design and function at low prices so the many people can afford them.

I have a 6 year old son, Xavier, we play like bestfriends. We use are imgagination playing pirates, adventures to far away places like outer space since he has glow in the dark stars and planets on his ceiling. We have story time and thats another delightful adventure that awaits the two of us. Of course can't forget Family Game Nights!! We also have kids weekends which we invite every kid we know to our house no matter what age and have a weekend full of fun; camping, water days, paint, movies and etc.
my kids and i play pretend, in a hundred forms. yesterday, for some unknown reasons, we were clams. frequently we are dinosaurs. my little girl pretends i'm her "baby" and covers me in a blanket and pats me to sleep, with vigourous love.
We play babies and puppets too.
We also play with stuffed animals and making faces...his favourite face to make is a smile!
thanks
Amy
We built a huge nest in the backyard this spring and the kids use it as a reading hideaway now. We make fairy houses in the yard. And I also seem to spend a lot of time helping little girls dress Barbies.
I love playing build a fort and playing in. We also love building sand castles on the beach right now!!!
Thanks
