CLOSED: Ikea's All About Play Giveaway

When kids pretend to be a superhero flying through the air or a princess having a tea party, they use their body’s muscles and stimulating their brain’s senses. This play lays the groundwork for learning, how the body works, thinking sparked by creativity and imagination.

IKEA knows how important play is. With the help of child experts and children, IKEA immerses itself into a child-like mind to create things that encourage play in the most important playground in the world, your own home.

  • The PS SVINGA Hanging Swing, like a hammock, provides a calming escape for a child to read or just swing and daydream.
  • Play_Date_with_IKEA_giveaway
  • The LOMSK Swivel Chair becomes a spaceship, the perfect spot where only little people can fit and hide and spin and be themselves.
  • The MUMMUT series enables kids to escape into a world of imagination with its rounded corners and cartoon feel.
  • The KURA Bed makes bedtime an adventure as they climb up to the stars to sleep. And in the morning they can descend into the hut underneath to play.

The IKEA Playreport engaged parents and children from across the world to participate in a conversation around child development and play. Their aim is to increase awareness, start meaningful discussions – and hopefully get parents and children to play more together in the process. Visit the Playreport page on Facebook to participate in conversations around child development and the importance of play.

We also had the chance to try out IKEA’s new iPhone/iPod Touch app LEKAR, inspired by the Playreport (link to blog that talks about this).

Founded in Sweden in 1943, IKEA offers home furnishing and accessories of good design and function at low prices so the many people can afford them.

Firstly, let me start of my saying I am so glad I came across this website. I have read alot of blogs in the passed and this site is by far the best.
I have a 6 year old son, Xavier, we play like bestfriends. We use are imgagination playing pirates, adventures to far away places like outer space since he has glow in the dark stars and planets on his ceiling. We have story time and thats another delightful adventure that awaits the two of us. Of course can't forget Family Game Nights!! We also have kids weekends which we invite every kid we know to our house no matter what age and have a weekend full of fun; camping, water days, paint, movies and etc.

i love Ikea's kid stuff and it's hard to come by out on the East Coast.

my kids and i play pretend, in a hundred forms. yesterday, for some unknown reasons, we were clams. frequently we are dinosaurs. my little girl pretends i'm her "baby" and covers me in a blanket and pats me to sleep, with vigourous love.

I am not a mom who usually plays with her kids, but I love to encourage their imaginations by reading out loud to them or helping them build forts, find the right pretend outfit, or make what they need out of paper. Sometimes I feel like we live in a different world all together.

My girls and I love to play grocery store. One of my daughters is the "cashier" and she checks through my other daughter's and my items. We then "pay" her and she gives us our "change". It is a great way to teach my girls about finances while being lots of fun!

We are big into make believe play. Costumes and the whole deal. Princesses being rescued and knights with horses (or dogs). Living in the country has so many opportunities for hide and seek and exploring as well. My husband gets right into and has more fun than the kids sometimes.

My son is almost 22 months and we have a lot of fun, he's really bright in my opinion, of course I am his mom, haha, but we pretend a lot to be animals, airplanes, trains, we encourage him to listen to all sounds and where they're coming from and to repeat them, to look @ the sky and our surroundings, he now says "moma, daddy, LISTEN!" haha it's so cute, and "Look" and he points at things he wants to show us, just to be aware of his surroundings, very little tv, if any, and lots of laughing and talking!

I love playing with my kids, and I love encouraging magical, old fashioned, imagination-based play.
We built a huge nest in the backyard this spring and the kids use it as a reading hideaway now. We make fairy houses in the yard. And I also seem to spend a lot of time helping little girls dress Barbies.

Our favorite pastime is playing restaurant, the kids take our orders and then pretend to make the food and deliver it to us. It's amazing what they come up with! My 5 year old wants to be a chef, and the 1.5 year old is great at "making" cakes (the only thing we ever get from him!).
