Right-I think both ideas are important. I think a good attitude leads to good school work. Honestly, I got the feeling this teacher did not want to teach. He wanted to talk to the kids and relate to them. That’s all great, but learning health is important too.

Oooh, what a spectacular question! And I must say I can find things to agree with on both sides - factoring in just the academic stuff and factoring in other stuff like attitude. On the one hand, it’s useful to know how to spell, do math, and know other important skills that we learn at school. On the other hand, it’s important to respect the self and others because life isn’t about book knowledge alone. At home we definitely encourage our children to put in their best effort at school and be honest with themselves about it. We also want to instil in them the importance of bringing your best self to everything you do in life. I don’t think a grade should consist of just attitude or just academics. I think both should be weighed in there as long as it’s done with integrity on the teacher’s and student’s part. Can’t wait to read what others have to say on this subject. Thanks for a great post!

Hello mama! Well, I too struggle with same balancing act. I know I am blessed but at the same time it’s no re-run of “Leave It To Beaver.” A couple of weeks ago I looked into http://www.flylady.net. The timer sounds like a nice way to help me balance. Very realistic, thanks for that. I am also glad that I am not the only one who feels guilt about the tv. It is always nice to know you are not the “only one.”

I work part time, only 2 days out of the week,this means I constantly have to check my email on the days that I am home and often work here and there throughout my day. I also use the TV which I hate so I try to make the best out of the time when she is fully entertained. I often tell her and explain that I need to do something important and sometimes set a timer, when the timer rings, I am all hers!
